Can you apply it to your hair as a paste instead of eating it?

Yes. You can add Bhringaraj Powder with Henna (and Amla, Jatamansi, Hibiscus) to make a hair paste. However, more than Hair Pack with Henna, Bhringaraj, is best used to prepare Hair Oil. You can also boil this powder with coconut oil (70%) + Sesame Oil (20%) and Nigella Sativa (Kalonji Oil) 10% at a very low flame for 120 to 150 minutes and allow it to cool and then filter it to prepare home-made Bhringaraj Hair Oil. You can find many home-made bhringaraj hair oil on internet and apply the best that suits to you. Traditionally, Bhringaraj leaves and Stems are boiled with Coconut Oil + Milk and herbs at a very low flame in a large pan (traditional Indian Kadhai) for long durations like 3 to 7 days.

will this add thickness & body to fine thin hair?

Hi there, I have been using Bhringaraj powder mixed with amla powder, brahmi powder in coconut and castor oil to reduce hair loss and it has helped tremendously. Don't know if it will work to add volume. Eitherwys it is good for your scalp and hair.

Is it better to ingest it or apply it onto your hair?

It is food supplement. However, the taste is not palatable to many. Hence, it isn't suitable to be added to anything like a juice. It can be consumed directly in teaspoon and swallowed with water. Bhringaraj powder is also used externally in hair pack.

I mean...it kinda works, but not as great as other products I uses

I'm unsure. I would recommend buying it in the form of an oil, because I know that works. It always tastes if graphite no matter what you add. The powder is not fine enough to mix into things and does not produce many results. It's like papery flakes. I do a hair recipe that mixes it with coconut oil and the powder just doesn't mix like other powders. Don't leave it in water for more than 2 days, even in your fridge, or it will smell and look...bad. I would say okay.
