ANNE OF WEST PHILLY

How could i not love this inventive retelling of my childhood favorite?!
This inventive retelling of a childhood favorite completely won me over, although I wasn’t a fan of the idea at first. But the author and illustrator clearly have “the feels” for their source material, even though I think at least one of the changes wasn’t necessary. You can figure that one out for yourself. But everything else worked out perfectly and I wouldn’t mind a sequel. There are at least 9 books in the Anne Shirley series so there’s plenty of source material to go around. I’m going to check out the others in the series. My daughter is named after the main characters is A Little Princess.

More Anne Please
Ok so I've never watched or read anything about Anne of Greene Gables except for a tiny bit of the PBS miniseries. I have nothing to compare this modern retelling to in that aspect. But it's cute. The art is gorgeous. As is Anne. And I love that it promotes Science and Girl Power and acceptance. I do think it's hard to work through everything this book tried to tackle in a single graphic novel. I think maybe spread out over a series of volumes, like Lumberjanes, would work better. There's so much potential story there with Anne and her friends. And now I want to binge all these imaginary books.

Modern Mix
I thought this was a great retelling of Anne of Green Gables. I love how this modern retelling put Anne in foster care and how Matthew and Marilla were just taking her in for a little bit. I also love how this story touches on the STEM program. How Anne is very good with coding and how she and Gilbert meet and then turns into enemies then learn how to work together. I also love Anne and Diana's relationship.

Modern and wholesome
A modern rendition of a classic, in a format that can capture the attention of reluctant readers who might not be able to access the original Anne. As an avid reader of the entire Anne series, I’d love to see more of these!
