It's funny that I'm apparently the only one that got this to test it for inking art rather than calligraphy. Yikes! Already inked my art with the thin tip and it dried very quickly. No smudges at all and it was very merciful with the watercolor paper I use (some ink pens will bleed through even with the faintest touch). So this one worked immediately and smoothly. Also, the tip is sturdy, so you have control on what your are doing. The brush tip is perfect for calligraphy and making thick shades. Very wet - so it's not something that dries quickly (the Batman art has the smudges cause I didn't let it dry properly). Already had my hands inked all over, but washes away with water. Black ink is darker than other ink pens I own which is great. It's a big pen compared to my other art materials but it's very comfortable to hold. Doesn't feel heavy either. The back instructions even shows that you can place the caps within each other so you don't loose 'em. That's helpful! I will purchase more in the future and maybe I'll get into kanji calligraphy at some point because the thick brush tip feels right for it. Quick thoughts: • 5/5 stars hands down. • Great price and fast delivery. • I 100% recommend this product for calligraphy and for inking art. • On thicker brush: let it dry for a fair amount of time so it doesn't smudge all over. • Lightweight and easy to handle. Great for travel art because of the two sizes of marker. Decent quality as far as ink and tips go

I cannot recommend this Kuretake brush pen enough! I tried it with my calligraphy and I just fell in love! It does have a stiffer-than-expected turnip-shaped brush, but that lends for more control which I do prefer as a beginner. I will update this review if I find leakage or if the pen doesn’t last long, but so far so good!

still my fav go to pen for easy uncap and go expressive cursive writing. getting out ink and a nib can be such a pain for quick little notes, cards, and envelopes. this pen has a nice saturated black color, an easy to use brush nib and just the amount of ink flow to make it more special than any other brush pen on the market. highly recommend.

I absolutely LOVE this. The ink is fluid and smooth without causing spillage or bleeding (on a 60-80 lbs budget sketchbook) If you're new to brush pens, I recommend giving it a go. Kuretake also has Zig illustration sets or inktober collections that are really reasonably priced and the quality does not disappoint. I've had these for a few months and they're still going strong.

I will say that I have tried quite a few brush pens from Tombow, Pentel, Pilot, Zebra, and other Kuretakes, and this one was probably one of my favorites. Just to clarify: this is a felt tip brush pen, which means it will not have individual 'hairs' or strands, but rather a cloth shaped to a point. Just want to make sure buyers know what they want, because brush pens generally fall into the felt tip or true brush tip categories, and this falls into the prior. The ink is nice and black, and unless you zip it across the page as fast as you can, will maintain a nice thick flow. It dries pretty quick too, and unlike traditional brush pens, it doesn't bleed as much through the paper. The pressure sensitivity is great too, and you can achieve good variations of line width with the brush side. I could've cared less for the hard point though, which I rarely used. Only downside was that if you press really hard, it permanently deforms the pen tip (which lowers the pressure variance). Not a problem for most, but my general curiosity got the better of me and I was tempted into testing it's ability to retain tip uniformity. It also tends to run out fairly quickly, but only if you use it and nothing else for many drawings. I managed to get about 50 sketchbook pages filled out with it, which is pretty good compared to other brush pens I've tested. For example, although I prefer the traditional feel of the pentel pocket brush pen, each cartridge only lasts me about 5-10 pages.

(For cartooning) This is a really interesting brush style pen from Kuretake. Comparable in length to the no. 8 (which is quite long), the two tips on this pen are significantly different in size and handling. The fine end is very fine and quite rigid. I would say it is more comparable to a Pigma Micron in line weight than the Kuretake Bimoji fine brush pens. However, if you draw with a heavy hand or push too hard, the tip may bend or warp. The larger brush end is a fat, flexible brush tip that is useful for black fills and shading, but I would not recommend it for actual line work. This might be a nice pen to pack if you're drawing away from your home/workspace, or if you're looking for more versatile tools.

This is a great pen to travel with, especially if you are looking for a good sketching pen. As others have mentioned, one end of the pen is a good brush, and the other end is extremely fine and you can obtain a wonderfully fine line with it. Yet the ink is a very dark black. The ink does dry quickly; and you can easily reactivate it with water (using a waterbrush pen or just a brush with water) to obtain interesting effects. I love the pen for all of the above qualities, including the general versatility you can get with just this one tool.

I've been looking for a good brush pen for a really long time now, and I think I finally found the one! I used the American equivalent to this for about half a year (the tombow dual brush pen) and this is significantly better! I was surprised by the hard tip and how small it actually writes, it's perfect for the stuff I do. It's very hard and looks like there's not much chance of fraying or ruining it, but I'm still trying to be careful because I want this to last a while. The hard tip is a little squeaky sounding though. The soft tip really acts like a brush and glides really well across the paper. It doesn't bleed, but it's doesn't do quick strokes very well. That's alright in my book anyway. So far it's a great buy and I really hope it stays that way. It's the perfect combo of small and big tip for what I do, and it's a great travel pen. I no longer need to bring my whole pencil case with me everywhere I go. If all goes well, then I'll likely buy this again.
