Carnivorous Cape Sundew (Drosera Capensis) Plant 3 inch Pot

This seller is by far the best carnivorous plant seller any one of you will ever come across. I was stunned when I opened the package and found my drosera flawless. It had seven "arms" all perfectly healthy when I opened the package. The next day it began to form dew on the plant, and the day after that I was able to feed it small bugs. This is the second time I had bought from Joel's Carnivorous Plants. The first one was a Dionaea and it was as healthy as the Drosera. Both of the plants had no black traps and were very mature and active. These plants are very affordable, very healthy, very hardy and overall the best purchase I have ever made on Amazon. Unlike many other sellers on Amazon, this seller has a picture of exactly what you are getting. The picture of the Drosera above is what you will get in the mail, and I cannot express how much of a great plant that is! Not only did the seller include the astonishing plant, but it also came with a pot and tons of sphagnum moss. I will begin by saying that the pots that they come with are the absolute best for growing any type of carnivorous plant. It is the perfect fit for the carnivore, and it has holes on the sides for GREAT water filtration. It is extremely hard to find pots like these anywhere else. They also sell the pots on Amazon too which is a great convenience. Now for the sphagnum peat moss, the package comes with MORE than enough moss for the plant which is a great convenience. The moss is also a VERY high quality type of soil that surpasses anything you can buy at any Lowe's or Home Depot. It is even better than most of the moss sold at other carnivorous plant websites. You can also buy the moss for extremely cheap prices on Joel's website. Anybody can tell that this seller is putting extreme measures in making sure that these plants are healthy. Along with all of these amazing bonuses to this affordable yet high quality Drosera, it came with an amazingly helpful and easy to follow care sheet for the plant. It went into great detail on how to cultivate and pot the plant so that I did not break a sweat to put the plant into the pot. They also gave me an e-mail address in case I had any questions. To summarize this buy I will say that I got an astounding plant (I literally gasped when I saw the plant)complete with a perfected pot and tons of extremely high quality sphagnum peat moss to pot the Drosera in. The potting process was a breeze because of the care sheet that went into great detail on how to pot and care for the plant all year long. And if all of this was not enough, I even got an e-mail making sure that I was satisfied with my purchase. I am, without a doubt, buying from this seller again. Joel's Carnivorous Plants is the God of Carnivorous Plants! Since my Drosera Capensis is doing spectacular, I put a picture of it on Amazon. It is with the other two pictures that are given.

I ordered two of these plants, one for myself and one for my son. They are doing gangbusters, as in especially well! My son's shipped to Palm Springs this week, while I received mine in the PNW a week or two previously. I think my son ended up with 2 plants in the pot which he received! Please see photos of both of our Cape Sundew plants, thriving. They also came with a full page of instructions and contact information from Joel, so helpful, and with the potting material of sphagnum moss, with the net (openwork) plastic pot. I put mine into a glass self watering pot of glass, but the plant is safe within its recommended and provided plastic pot which it came with. Mine has already caught some stray gnats indoors (that came in with my recently moved in from outdoors patio container garden plants). So happy about that. RECOMMEND UPDATE Fri Nov 21 and Sat Nov 29, 2025: My sundew plant has two flower stem/stalks preparing to bloom... and is blooming by Dec 1, 2025!

This sundew from Joel’s Carnivorous Plants arrived in great condition. The shipping was quick, and the plant looks healthy and is already thriving in its new spot. The quality of the plant is impressive, as it arrived with vibrant color and no signs of stress. It’s a unique addition to a plant collection, is a great value, and is hopefully going to help eat some of the fungus gnats from my other plants. It comes with a small net pot and moss for planting. You'll need to provide a bowl and some distilled water. The instructions included with the plant are very detailed and easy to follow. They emphasize important care points, like using only distilled or reverse osmosis water to keep the plant alive. This makes the plant much easier to care for, especially for someone new to carnivorous species. I'd definitely buy more from this store when I’m ready to expand my collection. Joel clearly cares about these plants and I'm happy to have found this store.

Perfect first carnivorous plant! I have experience with many types of plants, but any time I'd tried carnivorous before they had no instruction. I greatly appreciated the thorough directions that came with these plants. The cape sundew was one of two that I ordered (and the only successful one). I'm thrilled with how it looks - arms outstretched to catch all the little fungus gnats from nearby moss-pole plants. It's very successful at catching these guys. I followed all directions when the plants arrived, and in just a couple weeks the sundew was showing positive signs of life. In less than 3 months it has at least doubled in size and seems very happy. We move it for a few hours from time to time when there is a pesky gnat flying around, and often we notice the gnats hovering near it. The sticky arms are covered in gnats. Note: They also catch pet hair that floats through the air, but I don't think this is inhibiting the plant in any way. I'm back for more so I can spread them out in my sunny room and maybe try another variety of carnivorous plant. I did purchase a butterwort with this plant which did not grow or thrive. It simply rolled off the moss one day, unrooted.

I 100% recommend this seller. I’d purchase again as I’m sure it’s something I did, but I can’t find the email I sent to him when I first purchased my little guy to ask what happened. I don’t believe this has anything to do with quality, likely my fault? I guess that’s why I’m posting in hopes he will read and give me advice. I don’t know if this is fair to rate as I’m unsure if I did something wrong or what but I’m saddened that my plant thrived for so long and then died. It was beautiful. It arrived healthy, the seller shipped it with care so I’d buy from him again. It was doing so well, growing more and more until a months later, one by one the leaves started curling up and then the entire plant completely died (recently). I’m unsure why. I used only distilled water, used the tray/saucer method filling it with water and kept the plant constantly waterlogged as instructed(again, only with mineral free pure distilled water). I used the “soil” and pot it came with. I provided natural and artificial sunlight sitting it by a window, and also had a little detachable grow light for it so it received enough light. I emailed the seller when I first got it since it was my first carnivorous plant(besides a few venus fly traps in the past) for advice and followed it. He was incredibly helpful, but I lost his email. I never changed the soil type, no fertilizer and it was catching gnats. I honestly don’t know what I did wrong. It grew several long stems that flowered too! It didn’t seem to produce a lot of dew that I could see though but it still had visible gnats it was feasting on, but every few weeks, one by one, one of its leaves started to brown and curl then fall off. It’s almost like it needed water but I kept the saucer filled 1/3 of the way, the water changed, and the moss stayed moist. I will likely buy another from this seller, but just wish I knew what I did wrong. :( (Photos are when it first started to show signs of issues and then just plummeted within 1 months after doing wonderfully for over 6 months)

This Sundew is the 2nd type of carnivorous plant that I've purchased from Joel. This first being a VFT. The plants hes sent me are the healthiest I have ever seen in captivity and his care instructions are idiot-proof. The quality, beauty, and size of the Sundew he sent is perfect. I got the plant a days earlier than expected, so I didn't have the diffused water on hand and the plant STILL looked gorgeous the next day when I came home with the water and transplanted. It's been 2 days since transplanting and it's already producing dew and catching those stupid fruit flies that I can't seem to keep from squatting in my apartment. Even if you're a beginner, Joel will hold your hand through the whole thing. His customer service is unmatched and not just as a plant merchant. I will never purchase another carnivorous plant from anyone else as long as Joel is in business!!

Wonderful plant I was worried the first week I had it but after adding a plant light it recovered very nicely and is eating well
