You might be wondering what the "Plus" means. I spent hours trying to figure it out because it's actually not a very common pack. The biggest difference is the top turns into a very good day pack or summit pack. It also has extra compression straps and hiking pole loops but the summit pack is the biggest difference. The top folds out with straps that you attach and are surprisingly sturdy. The hooks go into the loops and lock, you will find it confusing until someone shows you and then it's super simple. The summit pack is worth it's weight in gold times 10. It holds 3L camelback bladder in the summit pack!!! The only other summit pack I could find that does that cost $50 and not even close to this quality. I returned the Osprey Aether 65 and got this Aether Plus 60L and it was worth it! I was able to pack 3 days worth of gear with a big bear food can into this pack with no dangling items. Any longer and you might want to get the 70L Plus. The only question I have is why can't you find the Plus model at REI or other sporting good stores? It is the better pack by far! Amazon also had it cheaper then the best REI year end deal.

Overall, Osprey makes thoughtful packs and this one fits that description. It fit me pretty well, and the weight distribution seemed very good. However, the center packet is compromised by how much you stuff in the main compartment. Perhaps the worst part was the hip pockets as they are too recessed to get into even with some effort. They are also small so Osprey should either do them right or just put the pockets somewhere else. Overall, when you pay top dollar for a pack almost every part should be near perfect and this one is not quite there.
