So much great information!
5 out of 5 stars If you or someone close to you is dealing with hormonal imbalances or an autoimmune disease, I think this book is well worth picking up. It does a really good job of explaining things and gives you a lot of ideas on how to start finding the root cause instead of just treating symptoms. Some of what you read can be a little alarming, but I actually think that’s part of what makes it such an eye-opening book. It’s well organized, easy enough to follow, and the recipes for an AIP diet are a nice bonus. For the amount of information you get, I thought it was a great value. I will say it’s a fairly short read, but there’s a lot of medical terminology throughout the book. I found myself stopping quite a bit to look up terms and do some extra research, so it took me longer to finish than I expected. That’s not really a negative, just something to be aware of. As far as giving it as a gift, it’s probably not something I’d buy for just anybody. But if you have a close friend or family member that’s dealing with autoimmune issues or hormonal problems, and maybe they’re overwhelmed or not sure where to start, I think this would be a thoughtful and genuinely helpful gift. Overall, I learned quite a bit from it and would definitely recommend it.

The Hashimoto's BIBLE!
I've read pretty much everything out there on the subject of Hashimoto's, and I can honestly say without a doubt that this is the #1 resource in existence on the subject. Dr. Wentz has been leading thinker on Hashimoto's for years, and though her book Root Cause was excellent, this book takes things to a whole other level. It's not only much easier to navigate, but also lays out the path to recovery so simply and clearly. The unfortunate reality of our world today is that we are suffering from massive information overload. And there are few places where this is more true than on the subject of hypothyroidism. On the one hand, we have many mainstream conventional physicians who believe that little to nothing can be done for Hashimoto's except to give a prescription for thyroid hormones (which will require ever-increasing dosages as the thyroid gland is progressively destroyed). On the other hand, we have a mess of various people suggesting all sorts of lifestyle and diet interventions that are often not supported by science (for example, one notable thyroid guru who has a large following of people advises to consume large amounts of orange juice, milk, refined sugar, and to avoid omega-3s and green vegetables at all costs. I'm not making this up.) In short, we have a mess of information that has the potential to easily lead people down paths that are ultimately likely to either leave people feeling like there is nothing they can do except pop thyroid pills, or alternatively, sort through a mess of information to figure out how to implement diet and lifestyle changes to benefit their thyroid health. Dr. Wentz has done all the hard work of sifting through this mess of information, and through the scientific research itself. She has also hugely advanced the entire paradigm of how we think about hypothyroidism with her "Safety Theory" -- which by the way, is genius. This book is not just about covering up symptoms -- it's about getting at the root cause of the problem. And Izabella guides step-by-step on exactly how to correct each of the root causes, from her slow and gentle liver support and detox approach, to fixing your adrenals, to healing your gut. It's all laid out in easy-to-follow steps. To sum up: If you have Hashimoto's, get this book right now. It lays out the exact steps you need to take to reverse your symptoms and get your health back. Make it your health bible -- study it and implement it, and you'll be on the path to recovery. -Ari Whitten

LOOKING FORWARD TO NO MORE SERIOUS SUFFERING! : )
I am so happy I ordered this book and discovered the many ways I can stop triggers which cause me much agony because of Thyroid problems which I have had since the mid 70's and no doctor knew how to help me! : ( Thank you for all the hard work you have put into this information as I have suffered most all the symptoms that you tell of your suffering, in your book. My blood tests show no need for looking into anything, so I love how you call it "The Silent Disease"! I have nothing to tell anyone that I have except symptoms so I sounded like made up all my ills! : ( I have suffered in silence many of my 78 years. Now I have found a Functional Medicine Doctor who had practiced as a heart doctor most of his life and has been helping people like me for 10 years now! : ) So happy you kept saying to find a doctor who practices F.M.; in fact I had found him right before hearing your program on the internet and then buying your book. He is doing all the tests that your book mentions and then will give me what I need to help me. In the mean time I am applying all you are telling me in your book, thankfully, I had been eating very healthy for many years as I have been, what in the mid 70's was called, "a health nut." I lived in Austin all my life up to the last 20 years, so I shopped at Whole Foods when he had a little house with what I remember had nothing but bulk items of many kinds. Thankfully, many nutrients and many kinds of health information has kept me alive up to now! : ) Thank you for helping me and others like me, who thought there will never be any help out there and will have to suffer very much until death; now I don't have to think like that any more! Thank you for publishing this information wherein we can have help!!! : ) I even went to visit friends about 5 1/2 hours away and fell ill right after arriving. I was so sick and they finally thought I was pretending I was ill to get out of doing anything that I didn't want to do! : ( The wife was being treated for cancer with radiation and chemo, so I looked like a bum to them as she even had the energy to go to work as a house cleaner. They told me to get out by the next morning and how I made it home I don't know, but I remained very ill for a very long time after returning home, able to do only the tasks which kept me alive without going into a rest home. : ( I have suffered like this for the last 10 years, having these flairs, that last up to a month and unable to eat hardly a thing, nor drink hardly anything. : ( Thank you so much for giving me hope as I have been to many doctors and a number of alternative health professionals and not much relief! : ( My poor Mother suffered so badly with no complaints--she was raised on a ranch during the dust bowl in New Mexico so was a very tough lady--her Thyroid was taken out. Now others don't have to suffer like I have and my Mom did!!! : ) Keep up all your great work!!! : )

Working on the second protocol now.
I read her first book "Root Cause" and have to say I MUCH PREFER this new book! So if you are deciding between the two, opt for the new one! I can tell that she worked much more closely with an editor because there is far less rambling & repetition. Right now I am about 3/4 the way through the book and have started on the first protocol but have not started feeling "great" yet. The information however is very useful and concise, you know what brand of supplement to order and how much, which is a big improvement IMHO to the first book which was a bit vague. It's a shocker to see just how many supplements are required each day, it is pricey... but so is feeling sick and tired all the time! (Attached photo shows supplements required for 1st protocol) UPDATE #1: Finished the 2 week liver protocol with some success. We are now in 2nd week of 4 week Adrenals protocol. A) I took the thyroid symptom assessment quiz before we started went from a score of around 229 to a 166, now at 83! (lower number means less symptoms) B) In the liver assessment test I went from a "severe" toxicity 50, down to a moderate 23, now an 8! C) Adrenal Assessment I went from a 16 to a 3! D) Also my hubby's blood pressure went down & it's now in the acceptable range. E) I do seem to have more energy and mental clarity the last week and have been losing weight. F) No cravings for sweets, salty foods or coffee. (yay!) I will update again once we finish the 2nd protocol. (added photo of supplements for 2nd protocol)

Life Changing - THANK YOU!!!
This book has really changed my life. I purchased this book over a year ago and continue to feel better every day. I never knew Hashimotos was something that could be reversed until I came across this book. I used to be so fatigued that I would come home and go straight to bed every day after work and stay in it basically until the next morning - most days I would be exhausted just by sitting upright in a chair after a few minutes. I started stuttering, had brain fog, random chills, swelling, weight gain, ice cold hands and feet, would constantly get sick (colds), allergies, nausea, couldn’t remember things, and anxiety. I used to seriously lack the discipline to follow the protocol in its entirety for 90 days so I just started by doing about half of the things she suggests in her protocol and immediately started to feel better. I am now doing the full protocol and can’t believe how amazing I feel!!! I was told by my Dr. that my Hashimotos and it’s symptoms would only get worse and the only thing to be done was increase medication doses until my thyroid actually died. My doses are now cut in half and my antibodies are down to only 47 (originally 600 +)!!! I never thought I would see the day!! I feel so much more informed about what is happening with Hashimotos and empowered to advocate for my own health. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to feel better and have purchased several copies and gave to friends/family who have Hashimotos. I have seen several Dr.’s and felt I was getting nowhere. I never found one who made suggestions or one who seemed to acknowledge that remission was possible but I was able to find one who was willing to run most of the test this book talks about and that was very very helpful. I now have more than just the one dream of health and only have you to thank; If you are reading this Izabella THANK YOU for all of your hard work and for giving me hope and the tools to advocate for myself and achieve health!! Thank you a million times over!!! Tip: I also downloaded this book on audible (you can get two free audible books if you have amazon prime) so I could listen to the book while driving sometimes and have found that to be very helpful!

I love that Dr Wentz was brave enough to use her ...
I love that Dr Wentz was brave enough to use her own personal experience with Hashimoto's to help others...I admire that she stepped into a calling to fill the gap! So many doctors speak from a place of text book knowledge, but not personal experience (ie. a male OBGYN, an Oncologist who has never been through cancer treatments, etc). Though not their fault, there is comfort in knowing that Dr Wentz truly understands the difficulty of navigating life with Hashimoto's. She comes across as relatable, compassionate and determined to share what has made a difference on her remission journey. I also appreciate that she is a medical professional, so with her personal experience, we benefit from the best of both worlds. I was thrilled to see how much she reminds the reader to be their own advocate...no one else lives in our body. If we feel that a doctor is not listening or brushing off our symptoms, we can seek out another. We tend to forget that we are customers in the medical system, and we have the right to choose. Encouraging the reader to take charge of their health and seek a variety of professionals is very empowering. I hope her book gives permission to readers to be proactive in their health care decisions. The one thing I would have found very helpful would have been a chart on when to take all of the supplements (time of day). Each of the three protocol phases have many amazing supplements, and the quantities are given, but I can't imagine taking them ALL first thing in the morning. I sat down and made a chart to spread them throughout the day; some with meals, some are not...would have loved some additional guidance in this area. Hands down, this is the most comprehensive, honest, medically sound and personally useful book on the topic....nothing comes close. This is a "whole person" approach, not just medical jargon. It is a medical professional speaking in layman's terms, with personal experience and practical solutions to helping each of us achieve our best health on this journey. Would highly recommend to anyone overwhelmed by this diagnosis who wants to make the most of taking steps to reach optimal health and thrive!

Very in depth but not clear enough to call it a protocol.
The title is the Hashimoto’s Protocol and yet I haven’t found one protocol inside. Each section targets a specific topic but then within that section the content is not well organized. Also, when you’re trying to follow AIP and then the author says: use xyz if tolerated. Well, I don’t know if I tolerate it yet. As someone who just needs a clear cut plan, this book was not very helpful. It’s very complex. This book would be great for someone who isn’t recently diagnosed and wants to find tune their health.

Definitely worth a read
Great tips and advice to get you on the track to changing different things in your life which can help with how you feel. I'm yet to have a blood tests and appointment with my doctor after I've started implementing the recommendations but feeling hopeful. Easy to understand and follow explanations of the condition, why we suffer from it, etc. It's step by step, what you need to do so you can alleviate symptoms and influence your condition. I'd definitely recommend the book and I'm still working through it (currently halfway through). It repeated a lot of what my doctor is saying - like remove stress, no toxins, etc. - however, what was missing is how do I go about achieving that and understanding the basics of the condition. The book has given me a different way of looking at things and now I'm a lot more aware of the various toxins we consume daily and don't even realise. However, there's some things to keep in mind. I'd say some prep before starting each of the fundamental protocols may be helpful. There's three and you're supposed to implement each protocol for a certain amount of time. I found I don't have a lot of what is needed to cook some of the foods. E.g. I didn't have a blender for smoothies. In addition, there's so many things you can do, at some point I just decided to apply what I can at this moment and keep the rest for reference in the future (which I think the author has also suggested in the book so this is not criticism, just my thoughts about the book). E.g. in terms of changing toiletries and cleaning products, I'd rather gradually buy products than go on a shopping spree to find the right natural products for so many things at once. I appreciate the idea of the book is to give clear guidance and steps to take but I felt I can't do it all. So I'm sharing this so you know and have the right expectations. You're definitely making a difference even if you start implementing some of the suggestions.
