Informative
Firstly this is a very well written and informative book. Bernsten clearly knows his subject in what is a niche subject. I found this more of a guide to investors / fund managers rather than furnishing someone with the ability to be able to start one. A graduate entering the finance market would probably gain from it. This is an informative read – but with a significant current price on Amazon it comes at a cost and would certainly need some thinking about before purchasing.

a page turner
arrived very promptly, the norm for amazon i must say and i gave this to my cousin who set up her own business a month or so ago, she told me its great, she said its a real simple thing but layered with great advice and tips and she will be enforcing a few ideas for sure, so there you go, perfect

A Guide to Starting Your Hedge Fund
A very accessible - and - given the subject matter, surprisingly readable guide, should you be considering entering the world of hedge fund management. However, I'm not entirely sure that the eyewateringly expensive cover price of this slim volume is justified, given that this book is very much a general overview of the subject.

This is a well written book packed with practical advice and is a great read for anybody interested in the challenges of starting a hedge fund and how to overcome them. I found the chapter on fundraising was particularly beneficial.

A Guide to Starting Your Hedge Fund.
Hedge funding conjures up an image of red braced city sharks wheeling and dealing with little regard for ethical consideration. However, in 'a Guide to Starting Your Hedge Fund' authors Eric Serrano Bernstan and John Thompson, give the subject a positive spin and attempt to humanise what is often a cold hard financial process. With an emphasis on the energy market, Berntsen and Thompson unravel the complexities involved in allocating resources within applied fields and examine how investments are best protected without losing the dividend potential.Of course, any investment in global financial markets is a gamble but the authors do highlight schemes and initiatives which can protect your fund and give managers the confidence to creatively direct their fund. For some reason, the relatively slim volume is expensive so I hope those who use it can cover the outlay through following the authors' financial advise!

Well written and helpful
For what could be a pretty dry subject, this is readable and even humorous in places. A good overview on the subject, emphasis on commodities in places, but the vast majority is relevant and helpful to anyone who is thinking about setting up a HF or works in this area.

A very interesting and practical guide to Hedge Fund start-up
Got the contacts, portfolio available and a bob or two to sparelooking for an investment opportunity? Fancy setting up a hedge fund? well why not and this is the book to help you do just that. Now of course it may seem that as such a book like this has a limited market and in practical terms, it does. Only a small group of people already in the finance industry are going to be able to effectively do this, but this is a surprisingly interesting book that should appeal to a wider readership than just it's narrow, practical market. It is very well written- clear, concise, well organised- and it dismantles the myths around hedge funds, which have a sort of Gordon Gekko mystique around them. This neat little book cuts through that perceptual veneer and works through with simple clarity but enough detail the nature of hedge funds and how to set one up- from first principles through trading and investment techniques, through the legal stuff, to actually getting the fund up and running. A surprisingly interesting read and very useful i'd say to anyone in a position to run their own hedge fund.

Not a casual read – so only for the genuinely interested.
Budding novelists are often told to write the book they would like to read themselves, rather than picking a market and trying to write the book that will appeal to the target audience. This is a book about hedge funds that has essentially been written on the same guiding principle. In reality, few people start hedge funds and, of those, the proportion likely to read a book about it first is likely to be small. However, there is broader appeal here, but still to a very niche market. This is a well written textbook on the steps to set up a hedge fund. Many of the principle will apply to other types of investment fund. My interest is as an adviser to pension funds (although not directly on the selection of investment managers). Although it did spend time stating the obvious and going into a lot of detail, it would be an interesting read for someone wanting to understand a bit more about the investment process from the perspective of those setting up the collective investment vehicles. One obvious group who might want to read this book would be students applying for graduate investment jobs although, at the current (Feb 2016) list price, they might want to encourage their library to buy a copy that they can then borrow. The practical steps set out in the book show the unglamorous side of management, but also a flavour of the excitement of identifying a potential money-making idea and converting it into something people can invest it.
