We had a toddler in our house who figured out doors and locks very early and was also a "runner," and so we were looking for a way to prevent unexpected exits through the front and back doors of the house that was more secure than a door alarm. The GlideLok was exactly what we needed. The product was easy to install, and it fit perfectly over every size door in our house. It took minimal work and tools to install (though you'll want a drill and possibly a small 1/16" sized drill bit). In no time, we felt more secure about preventing our little ones from leaving the house without us knowing. In-home sitters have also commented about how they feel much more secure knowing the kids are not opening the front or back door. It's super sturdy, and even after accidental strong attempts by an adult to open the door while it was locked, the GlideLok held fast and didn't damage the top of our door. Even after a year or more of use, the gliding mechanism works smoothly and effortlessly. It's as easy as a deadbolt to lock. If there is one downside we've found (and it's not with the product itself), it's remembering to unlock the slider in addition to the door's regular locks. As mentioned before, the adults in the house have mistakenly pulled on the door while the top lock is engaged. Thankfully, this has not yet resulted in any issues (other than perhaps some embarrassment for the opener of the door), but it is something you need to make mental note of when in use. As far as overall safety goes, we did consider household fire safety when installing this product. We ultimately determined that while our kids were preschool and younger it was more important for us to know they were not leaving the house without us and to be responsible for unlocking the door and moving them out to safety in the event of a fire/carbon monoxide incident. As we've worked with our kids to leave the outside doors and locks alone, we have gradually shifted to using the GlideLok only when our kids are playing independently and moving in and out of the rooms where we are. In summary, I am very satisfied with this product and would recommend it to any other parent looking for an extra layer of peace of mind.

Hard to close and open , will scratch the door

Dad is incontinent and gets confused - especially at night, and now at other times, too. While employing various strategies to limit the number and size of messes, I have also been searching for a door lock solution to limit the number of locations I have to check. I tried securing the door to the garage with baby locks with an adjustable plastic strap and a snap-locking closure, affixed with 3M double-stick tape: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XC8P2GZ near the top of the door where Dad won't see and can't reach. Unfortunately, Dad tried and tried the door until the closure flew apart. I added two more of them, one above and one below and scolded him for forcing the door when it won't open, and after one more incident he has stopped testing that door. But three baby locks to unsnap and re-snap every time I want to go into the garage is a bother. I have three other doors I need to lock as well: the upstairs bathroom, my bedroom, and the front door. I decided to give this GlideLok a try. It fits and slides easily over the interior doors upstairs. I was concerned about the possibility of damaging the screws if I removed the insert to allow the device to fit over the front door. Besides, that door has a well-fitted weatherstrip that would probably impede sliding, and I wanted to avoid removing weatherstrip if possible. Fortunately, the front door has a heavy metal security door outside of it, outswing, and the GlideLoc fits nicely over it with the pin placed towards the inside. I used a roofing nail to locate and make a guide hole for the screw (rather than a 1/8" drill bit). This morning before I got up to help Dad get dressed, he tested it out for me - I could hear him rattling it, and eventually he gave up. I've seen reports of people's kids being able to rattle the lock loose -- if that becomes an issue, I can build up the width of the metal door with some vinyl tape to reduce the amount of movement when you shake the door. Now I'm going to order a bunch more. They are significantly cheaper if you get a pack of 4. Rebeccah
