Is there a difference with 3d and 4d?

The 4d armrest armrest pad can be moved in parallel left and right by pressing the button, but the 3d armrest pad cannot be moved in parallel

Are the arm rests a soft cushion or hard plastic?

They have a bit of padding, but I got some covers for extra cushion

are these replacement arms universal or will they fit any similar style chair?

I don’t know if there is a universal size. Measure the distance between bolt holes on your chair the measurements are on the sellers page. That’s what I did to ensure they would work before buying.

Do I get one arm rest in the box or it comes with two?

There are two chair armrests in the box.
