Q: Is there a trick for getting the zipper to work?

it would help us responders if you were more descriptive with what you were having an issue with. if you're having an issue zipping the bottom slider downwards to its base position at the bottom of the zipper, i agree that it can be difficult. i sometimes have to push the bottom to pins together a bit before moving the bottom slider over them. if you're having an issue bringing the bottom-right pin up (the last step to un-zipping and separating the two sides), then ensure that the bottom slider is all the way down, then do that same with the top slider, then pull down on the top slider while you lift the right side up, and bottom pin up through the slider. if you're having an issue bringing the two sides together and starting to zip upwards, then ensure that the bottom slider is all the way down, then do that same with the top slider, slip the bottom-right pin into the channel in the slider, pull the right side down and keep pulling as you zip the top slider upwards.

Q: Are the sleeves lined with a smooth material? I want to wear a long sleeve shirt under this. If not, is there a sweater that has that?

The sleeves are not lined. However, I wear a long sleeve dress shirt and occasionally a turtleneck underneath and it’s fine. Truthfully, the quality of this sweater is better than I would have thought.

First, the use of the term willy-nilly is awesome. The bottom zipper does stay in place.
