Visualizing Muscles: New Ecorche Approach to Surface Anatomy

Brilliant book as a reference for figurative sculpture. On each opening, one side has a photo of the man and the other is the same pose showing the detailed muscle structure. I only wish there was an equivalent for the female figure.

The book contains page after page of black and white photo's of their male model with and without muscles painted on. Painting on the muscular structure was a ridiculous idea particularly for anyone who is seriously studying ecorche. The unpainted nudes are also sadly very faded with little contrast making them of very little use as a reference guide. Do no buy this book. Take a photo of yourself in the mirror if you need a nude to work from and buy a serious anatomy book for reference. Or skip the book look for online resources like the digital media repository who have far better anatomical models.

Very fast delivery. The book received is like 95% new. If all the images where in color it would be a Fantastic book. But still, very informative by itself and a great tool if used in addition with a real life model or an anatomical figure. I like the part where the author explains origins, insertions and action of the most important muscles. I liked it so much I ordered an other one for my sculptor friend!

Fascinant ! Déjà le fait que tout ça a été fait 'à la main' (peinture sur le modèle), des détails de tous les muscles excepté les muscles 'profonds' peut-être. En gros une référence pour tous ceux qui étudient l'anatomie, destinés au médecin, artistes, sculpteurs, etc.

表紙からもわかるように、ボディ・ペインティングを施した男性をいろんなポーズで撮影した写真が数多く載っています。足の裏や太ももの内側が隠れている写真が多く、その周辺の筋肉の構造がとてもわかりにくくなっているのが残念です。（手の平と手の甲は辛うじてわかる程度ですが、指には筋肉は無いのでそれほど苦にはなりません）もっと各部位毎の写真が充実していれば良かったと思います。先に悪く思えた場所から紹介しましたが、全体的にはとてもわかりやすく良質です。注目すべき筋肉の伸び縮みなどに関してわかりやすい説明が添えられているので、全身の筋肉がどのように相互干渉しながら機能しているかがよくわかります。日本語訳して発売すればきっと多くの人の役に立つと思うのですが、男性の下腹部を覆い隠さず写している写真が多いために、おそらく日本語訳されることは無いだろうと考えるととても残念です。
