Krav Maga Tactical Survival presents proven solutions to dangerous, real-life situations. Krav Maga is the official self-defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces and has been battle-tested by police, armed forces, private security personnel and security-minded individuals around the globe for 60 years. Krav Maga teaches you how to quickly size up a dangerous situation and neutralize your attackers before they gain the upper hand. This martial arts book is full of examples of real-world life-threatening situations, and in each case the clear, step-by-step photographs and text illustrate an effective solution—showing you how to disrupt your attacker's strategy, disarm them, damage or destroy their ability to harm you, and disengage quickly so you can move to a more secure location. Krav Maga Tactical Survival covers the following essential techniques: Upper Body Combatives (hammer-fist strikes, hook punches, head-butts, front kicks and more) De-escalation techniques Spoiling knife and firearm draws Neutralizing knife and firearm attacks Dealing with unarmed attacks (clothing grabs, chokes and bear hugs) Executing pick-ups and throws Review: Excellent basic book for anyone interested in the Krav Maga survival system. - As someone who has been seriously involved in numerous martial and combative arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-Do, Boxing, Wrestling, American Combatives and Krav Maga) for the last 65 plus years I am always looking for new books and materials of these topics. I recently purchased this interesting and informative book (Krav Maga Tactical Survival: Personal safety in action: proven solutions for real life situations by Gershon Ben Keren) on desertcart for a bargain price. Krav Maga has always been one of my favorite street combat systems. I had a 6 day (8 hours a day) intense training in this art many years ago at a Police Officer Instructor course at the Illinois State Police Academy with other officers who were also police tactics instructors from across the country. This 224 page soft cover volume is the second book by this author and is organized into five parts covering a wide range of material. The first part covers numerous excellent striking techniques. The second part deals with armed and unarmed self-defense scenarios. The third part focuses on armed assaults. The fourth shows defenses against unarmed assaults. The final part explains how to do various throws in self-defense. This book is filled with clear color pictures showing the all the techniques. This is an excellent book when it is combined with ACTUAL HANDS-ON training with a Krav Maga instructor. As I emphasize in all my own books and manuals on self-defense; books are fantastic but it is difficult learning any combative art from merely reading a book or manual. When you combine real hands-on training with a good instructor, books then become excellent resources to review the material. If you are into Krav Maga you may want to check out this excellent book. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Shotokan Karate Self-Defense Techniques: Combat karate for the street). Review: The best Gershon Ben Keren book thus far! - This book on the practical use of Krav Maga for "Real World" violence is even better than Gershon's first book. It addresses facing more skilled assailants (in the beginning section) and also what to do when fighting a pain resistant assailant. It deals with multiple attackers and defenses for knife and gun assaults. Bar room fighting is also covered in this book as well as the likely places that an assault might take place. What makes this book better than the first is that the illustrated techniques are better and easier to comprehend and there is advanced criminal psychology included. The psychology in this book is outstanding and it will teach you how to defeat most assailants. However, Gershon needs to write another book which goes into greater detail on how to beat skilled and trained opponents. He should also address dirty fighting in more detail and mass attacks where you are fighting to survive against 8 people or more. In NYC, there is an abundance of trained fighters and some criminals are highly skilled at boxing and grappling. There are many "karate guys" and "MMA dudes" in NYC too. Also, there is a huge amount of bodybuilders in my city in recent years. For example, if you are a bouncer, then the odds are very high that you will have to face a mass attack or trained fighter since you fight far more frequently than the average self defense practitioner. This can also be true if you live or work in a bad neighborhood. I hear that there are many martial artists on the West Coast too and mass/gang attacks are as commonplace if not more so than in NYC. I still say for extreme self defense and defense in virtually any scenario you should read David Kahn's books. This will serve someone who lives in inner city Chicago, Atlanta or the LA area much better. This book seems suited for someone who lives in the Northeast Region of America. Furthermore, if Krav Maga is to be respected as a martial art, it must be able to compete successfully against the other martial arts (Kung Fu, Karate, Jujitsu, MMA, etc.) not just unskilled opponents.

Be ready
Great instructional book. If you can’t get the proper physical training due to schedule or just no dojo around at least you can read and study and practice. Great book well written.

Excellent for all levels of training!!
I have been training in Krav Maga for three years and have read many different books on the subject. This book is about more than just how to execute Krav Maga techniques. For that, the book is excellent. The descriptions are exceptionally useful with each defense broken down into small steps with every detail addressed. The pictures support each of the descriptions and there are 4-8 photos for each technique! I really got the sense of the depth and breadth of Gershon Ben Keren's expertise and was able to easily follow the steps and reproduce the movements. However, the most unique and useful aspect of the book is the way that the defenses are introduced. There is a huge emphasis on the psychology of the attacker as well as the psychology of successful defense and self protection. I can not recall reading a martial arts or Krav Maga book in the past that discussed in such great detail the kinds of attackers and their motivations...and how to alter a response based on this information. He repeatedly emphasizes thinking beyond the technique in terms of decisiveness, de-escalation, third parties, etc. I read and enjoyed the first book in the series and this second offering builds where the first left off. It is by all standards excellent and I strongly recommend it to people of all levels of training.

Triangle Choke Against a Gun?
In have purchased and studied many Krav Maga books over the years. The reason I have purchased these books is to broaden my knowledge of Krav Maga. First, I have been an instructor of Krav Maga since 2011. Over my life I have been in numerous altercations especially when I was younger and by altercations I’m talking being attacked by multiple attackers, one on one street fights etc. So, I find your presentation of the psychology of surviving an attacker and your knowledge of what an attacker is thinking very good, how an attacker may approach and initiate an attack is point on. My problem starts with your presentation of your armed attack defenses. I would have to question the effectiveness of some of your techniques. You present a myriad of defenses where you are not controlling the weapon at all. I’ve tried some of your questionable techniques with some of my students as well as with other instructors and I feel that some of them will get someone really hurt or killed. One in question is putting a triangle choke on someone with a gun….what? I can put someone to sleep with a triangle choke in a matter of seconds but the gun is still going off while doing this, this is very dangerous. If you don’t control the gun he can still shoot you or someone else. I saw one of your responses was that punching someone in the face may not work against some people but the goal isn’t to knock them out (if you can then fine) but to stun them, distract them, affect their thought process them do the disarm. Another was to push the gun away, strike the groin, stomp the knee and run away oh and get shot. I have used some of your psychological points in my teaching, but I would be hesitant to include any of your defenses to armed attacks since I feel that the weapon is the issue and trying to control someone’s wrist instead of the knife or gun is a very serious problem as well as putting someone in a choke instead of addressing the weapon.

Great follow up to his first book!
This is the second home run from Gershon Ben Keren. His first book, Real World Solutions to Real World Violence, was an excellent resource - a must have for people who are serious about self defense. His new book, Tactical Survival, Personal Safety in Action, follows perfectly in its path. It's an excellent read with a lot of great information. The techniques are well-explained with numerous helpful photos. But what really sets his books apart from other martial arts/self defense books is his insights into the psychology of violence. Understanding and interpreting potentially violent conflicts is emphasized so that the knowledge stays with you, even when under the type of heavy stress that may inhibit your ability to perform. Gershon gives you all the tools you need, physical and mental. I highly recommend both books.

Excellent layout, even better content!
"Krav Maga Tactical Survival" is exceptionally well written and very well laid out - a rare find in most modern martial arts books. The pictures are also very clear, making it easy to see the exact steps laid out for each of the respective techniques. As a technique companion guide alone, I would highly recommend this book for the above reasons. The book goes above and beyond simple technique execution however. The section on "De-escelation" and dealing with "angry people" provides incredible insight into the psyche of an individual committed to carrying out violence. Techniques are great and necessary for dealing with violence when it occurs, but understanding how and why people become violent is arguably more important for avoiding violent situations altogether. "Krav Maga Tactical Survival" is highly recommended for anyone looking to expand his or her knowledge of both the conceptual and physical aspects of Krav Maga!

Great Investment
The absolute best thing about this book is that it meets the reader at whatever level of experience they have. If you have been training for years, this book offers refinement and understanding to fill in the gaps in your knowledge . I had been someone who felt he could handle any challenge in life, except a physical altercation. The lessons in this book will familiarize the reader with the skills and techniques one should be be aware of in order to begin to have the ability to defend oneself. I think it's also invaluable for people to realize that there are a finite universe of ways they can be attacked and if a person becomes aware of them and learns a defense for each, they are well on their way to providing themselves with a high level of personal safety. All of these thoughts are lessons learned from this book. Great read and you learn something new with each turn of a page. Don't hesitate in making this investment - it is well worth it!

Book Review
Having done Goju Ryu style for many years I was pleasantly surprised to find how similar Krav Maga is to it. I found it to be very useful as a guide. All the moves are fundamently sound & most importantly functional.

Sehr gut geeignet für Anfänger.
Das Buch ist wirklich gut. Es hält sich an die zehn Grundregeln des Krav Maga und bleibt auch bei der Beschreibung und Erklärung dabei . Keep it simpel stupid.. Sicher auch gut geeignet für Anfänger. Daher volle Punktzahl.

Advanced Techniques
This book is the gap between your knowledge (of what you know) and your martial arts background. It is also recommended for a complete beginners with no pre-requisites. The book contains clean techniques for beginners and intermediates making it easier to learn and apply in a situational environments. Self-defense or Martial arts books can be helpful but you should always train with the guidance of your nearby martial arts instructor and if you don't have any gym nearby, keep practicing by reading the book as well as watching videos on YouTube and focus on your forms. Remember: *Quality is better than Quantity* Lastly, for beginners, keep in mind that by reading this book, you cannot go and fight with trained fighters. But it will definitely help you in some ways. Keep practicing, train your muscle memory and keep growing.
