Q: Does this changing pad need a separate watetproof liner on its top to avoid the pad to get dirty whilr changing.

Not needed for sure as it waterproof itself and you can wipe it clean.

Q: Is the base of the changing pad firm? Can it be used without a changing table or a hard base?

The changing pad is made of a dense foam, but has no rigid base below it. So you have to place it on a table or some solid surface. It would be very risky to not have a solid/rigid surface below the pad. I strongly suggest you 'ONLY' use this on a strong stable surface. For that matter, do not use any changing mat without a table below it.

Q: Till what age of the baby can this be used ideally?

Depends on the baby.. i couldn't use beyond 10/11 months.
