Cesar Millan's Short Guide to a Happy Dog: 98 Essential Tips and Techniques [Millan, Cesar] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Cesar Millan's Short Guide to a Happy Dog: 98 Essential Tips and Techniques Review: Good read - I really was impressed by this book. Cesar goes through various breeds and behaviors. He goes into detail with his methods for making a happy dog. Everyone can benefit from this book, even those of us who've had dogs throughout our lives. There is always something new and simple. It helped me identify some behaviors that I wasn't even aware of. He gives simple, direct instructions to help your dog out. They work the first time. I have a 6 month old puppy who jumps on people when they arrive in our home. We used his method of no eye contact, keeping our voices even and it works every time. I feel a stronger connection with them than before. Review: Did wonders for our dog ma family - This is a great read for any dog owner. I didn’t realize how much more exercise my dog neeeded nor did I realize how important it was to set boundaries for her. This is a great basic and introductory book to training and owning a dog. Since reading this book I’ve changed how I approach problems we have been having with our dog and since then she is like a different dog! Her anxiety is less, she doesn’t beg at the table but most importantly my dog and son are relaxed around each other. I recommend also watching Cesar’s shows and learning how to read your dog’s body language.

Limited help over Dog Whisperer show
This book does not add much if you have already watched many of the dog whisperer episodes, and are somewhat knowledgeable about dogs and dog training. The book provides, in many cases, vague and sometimes unrealistic advice. For example, you're often instructed to wait for the dog to be calm and submissive before (x,y, or z). Just that simple, right? For anyone that's tried that, it can be stressful for the human to just wait (we are often impatient), and often the dog springs right back into excitement the moment you do something. I am of course not saying that waiting for calm submissive energy is bad advice, of course it is, but it would be nice to get some more details on the best way to reinforce calm behavior in a dog, and how to handle the human aspect of it. Reactivity to other animals is not specifically covered. The only thing close is to break a dog of fixation by jerking the leash. Yes, it can work, but it would be great to get more details on the intricacies of timing, distance, strength of correction, repetitions etc. Those details are no where to be found in this book, yet they are critical to properly use the technique. (Yes, I know we are supposed to consult a professional before doing anything recommended in this book). I do like what Cesar has to say about energy and the importance of it in the human/dog relationship. For that, I think this book is worth reading. This book will be of limited use to someone trying to solve a specific issue with their dog.

More Good Advice
For the most part this book is a fresh overview of Cesar's most basic principles. But it's also a book that is shared through the prism of Cesar's own life and take on life. Cesar reflects on dogs and their relationships with mankind and places deeper meaning in many of his methods. What most of the five critics Cesar has seem to fail to understand is that Cesar is not a dog trainer. And he's more than a behaviorist. Cesar's approach is a spiritual approach as silly a that may sound. He wants to teach people how to connect with their dogs and tune into what's ailing them and be able to communicate with them. From there everything else flows and so many people don't seem to appreciate that approach. I see Cesar evolving as a person in his books. He's grown greatly judging from this latest book. As far as I'm concerned, Cesar is a god to the cause of dogs. Cesar has done more for the cause of the animal welfare and enlightenment of America's approach to dogs than anybody else and no one can take that away from Cesar. I myself have been askance at times because of Cesar has approach has sometimes involved a certain level of cocky preachyness. But judging from this book, I'd say Cesar has grown greatly and become a greatly enlightened person. I love you Cesar!! And so does my well balanced pack. I could never have had four dogs before you. I could never have walked four dogs and I could never EVER have taken in a pit bull rescue dog. I also would not be a foot soldier in several local dog rescue groups. Thank you for what you've done for my life Cesar!!!!! I dream of taking your class one day.

Loveed this book.
I like the common sense and gentle training that Cesar recommends to us dog lovers. He's very sensitive and knows what the reactions from the dogs will be to the different ideas he shares with us. I've read another book by another author, but found some of that writer's ideas too harsh for me to be able to apply to our precious little girl. Our dog came to us from the Humane Society and was a very gentle, sensitive, shy, affectionate, and loving little girl. With the calm and gentle training that Cesar shares in his book, we are seeing very positive results.

Ok book if you didnt read the others
I purchased a few of Cesar Millan's other books and noticed they all said the same thing. The issue is for those of us who watch every episode of his we learn nothing new. Now with this book it basically combines everything from his other books in to one. I would recommend this book if you are a new puppy owner and if you have never read his other books before then this would be a great add on.

Easy to understand and put into practice
I've watched every single Dog Whisperer episode and have to admit: Cesar Millan changed my life. From having a mild case of cyniphobia, I am now a proud owner of an eight years old rescue Old English Sheepdog. Who, by the way, is known in the neighborhood as The Budha Dog. Thanks to Cesar's methods. This book has both refreshed my knowledge and has broaden my views about dog psychology. It is empowering, informative, and full of love. God bless you, Cesar!

I Colonel Vakada Lakshman have raised 04 dogs in my 20 years of professional growth as a pet lover without knowing the energy intricacies build in the dog species and breeds in particular. My first dog was a German shepherd followed by a Labrador mix, a Beagle and a Dachshund. The behavioral problems were very different with each dog that I owned and treated them on human emotions rather than dog instincts. I have seen the set of DVDs and also read your books A Member of the family,Short Guide to a Happy Dog and How to raise the Perfect Dog.I own a set of the DVDs and also the books mentioned above. They have been a revelation and a great eye opener making me understand dog psychology much better now.Presently I have an 16 weeks old Labrador - Buddy who is shaping up nice and am enjoying my journey bringing him up like a canine first and then as a companion.

For a first time owner of a dog this is a must read. In fact read this before you get the dog! Concise, easy to follow and in effect teaches the owner to live with the dog not the other way around,k all of which makes for a happy partnership. I highly recommend it.
