Cons: If you must have a made in Japan cooker this is not the cooker for you. Product Description on Amazon is incorrect. It does not have a steamer basket and it does not play the start/end melodies that other Zojirushi cookers play. The cooking functions listed in the Amazon product description are incorrect. This cooker has a soldered in clock battery that will eventually die some years after date of purchase if left unplugged. The clock is a 24 hour clock (ie. military time), no AM/PM. The display is not backlit. Pros: Seems well designed, built, and was packaged well. The outer shell of the cooker is plastic but does not feel cheap. The inner bowl has a good weight to it and also doesn't feel cheap. The buttons are easy to operate, as is the lid opener. The display shows a time to completion immediately after the start button is pressed. The unit operates quietly except faint clicking can be heard from electronic relays. Less steam is emitted from the cooker than what I expected. The measuring lines in the bowl are white and easy to read. Included carrying handle makes it easy to move. The display turns off when unplugged which should help extend the life of the battery. If the battery does die the clock will need to be set if you want to use the timer. Clock is easy to set. The unit does not have an attached holder for the spatula, however a tray is included that you can place on your counter. The cord does not retract but is easily removed. The cord, spatula/tray/measuring cup all fit inside the unit for easy storage. It has a lot of settings options: white, long grain white, sushi, congee, brown, GABA brown, Jasmine, steel cut oatmeal, quinoa, quick white and cake. Reasonably easy to clean, the inner lid and external steam vent is easily removed. Does a great job of cooking rice and oatmeal.

Generally I’d think most buyers of the 10 cup capacity know what they’re getting into. I’m talking to those of us who jump headfirst into a new thing because “the internet” said it’s great. They aren’t lying. This rice cooker has completely changed my relationship with rice. I used to be one of… those people. Bagged rice! In water!! Never again. This machine cooks it perfectly and with so little effort that I now eat rice on the regular. 2 cup minimum is enough for 1-2 adults, but the extra capacity allows flexibility for larger families, meal prep or freezing ahead. The warmer function is handy if you can’t get to it right away. It’s a bit plain looking but it’ll match almost any decor. And it’ll pay for itself vs going out, like if you like making your own sushi. No this isn’t a paid review I just really, really love this doodad and trust that you will, too. Even though it doesn’t sing.

This machine was designed for ease of use and the best tasting rice on earth. But it does take longer to cook the rice and there is a little more work to clean up. However, this machine produces a rice that exceeds any other white rice I've tasted. 2026 Update. For several years were using this Zojirushi almost exclusively for sushi rice, using the sushi rice setting, and the rice is just perfect...better than anything I've had at a restaurant: Sweet, light, fluffy, moist, with full flavor. Amazing. In the last year we've moved exclusively to brown rice, specifically GABA rice. The Zojirushi does its amazing thing for brown rice also! The rice is delicious, mildly nutty, moist and fluffy. The difference this makes to the cooking experience is wonderful. You are assured that at least one dish will turn out perfectly, and believe me, when you are placing steamed vegies or grilled stuff on top of the rice, having great rice turns a lot of uneven grilling into a great dish. And it really does save time. You do have to start earlier in getting the Zojirushi set up, but then you just forget it, and Zo will let you know when stuff is ready. And if you are busy, Zo keeps things warm till you get to it.

Best rice cooker ever. Dont buy a cheap one. Buy this one. It's robust, accurate, consistent, easy to clean, use and store. It has a small footprint on the counter and best of all it has a countdown timer that uses fuzzy logic. No more guessing when your rice will be done, you can plan a meal and time service around the rice estimate. Not just for rice, it has settings to cook several types of grain. The graduated measure for water on the inside of the pot is easy to read. This is one of the most thoughtfully engineered products I've ever owned. I wouldn't hesitate to get one as a wedding gift or housewarming gift. it's perfect for a foodie or vegetarian or any household that eats a lot of cooked grains and rice.

this is my second zojirushi rice cooker. I loved the one I had for 30 years, it work well all these years until I needed a replacement pot after years of cooking for the family. Unfortunately Zojirushi had no replacement insert pot to purchase. Everything about the pot especially the timer work accurately. I was somewhat disappointed that my new zojiruchi cooker was not accurate time wise. I liked the more precised time because I would know exactly when my rice will be cooked to time it with meals. Other than the time factor the rice cooker makes good rice. One more thing. The Gaba feature for brown rice and regular brown rice, we found that less water was needed than the designated line. We usually fill just below the water line. So for 3 cups of brown we put the water at 2 1/2 and that is how we prefer it. Otherwise it is to wet for our liking. We are careful to take care of the inner pot as directed because these cookers last a long time and Zojiruchi may not have replacement inner pots.

I made rice in a pan on the stove for decades. Splurging on this well-made machine let me make much better rice and more varieties, perfect every time. Especially good quality brown rice or mixtures with wild rice come out so much better. A worthwhile investment when you make rice regularly. I have used this one for almost a year and never had a problem.

Other than the colour, I love this rice cooker. This seems to be the only one that has a Jasmine rice option, which was important for our family. I also LOVE using it to make quinoa, which comes out perfect every time. All in all, we have tried every option so far and they are all fantastic. Last, but not least, clean-up is fast and easy.

Among all Zojirushi rice cookers we like this one the best. Maybe because it is made in China and not any other country where Zoji manufacturing plants are based, this one has menu options for long grain rice and jasmine rice (separately from "long grain" option) and for congee, which for me was a relief. All other Zoji models are mostly focused on japonica rice and maybe jasmine and have no option for Chinese congee (93 min cooking time), only for Japanese 'porridge' (50 min cooking time). So, these settings set this rice cooker apart and we love it and use it every single day for congee and grain-based soups (prepared on congee setting), and for long grain rice. It makes the tastiest congee ever with one click of a button. Unbelievably good.

Since we got this machine we haven't done rice any other way. We are mostly using it for sushi rice and regular white rice and it comes out perfect every single time.
