Great high contrast book that keeps baby's attention. It also helped bring out some of my baby's first smiles. I highly recommend this book for newborns!

My son loves this book! He is between 8 and 9 months old and, while he is at an age that he now likes colorful things, he still has a longer attention span for this black-and-white book than his other full-color books. Sometimes we read it several times in a row without him losing interest, which is saying something now that he is at this can't-sit-still-for-anything age. I think it helps my son learn to enjoy looking at books by introducing him to ones that hold his interest. The patterns are interesting and sharp. To be honest, my son likes Peter's other book "Look! Look!" (same author) better, but it is nice having both and being able to mix it up, especially because he is really starting to like real-life animals now.Book is durable cardboard, black and white pictures throughout; short phrases describing the pictures (like "puppies play") are written in yellow in various places on each page. They are a good size--not big and bulky, but not too small. Because of the cardboard, they can be propped up for younger infants to look at. The front cover of this book looks just slightly dull, almost like the black faded; but inside the pictures are crisp and starkly contrasted. They are good quality pictures.I started searching for high contrast black-and-white books because my son had a black-and-white stuffed animal that he LOVED and preferred over every other stuffed animal, even at a very young age. (He was gifted it at 3 months old and immediately loved and preferred it.) I didn't know a baby could be so attached to an object at such a young age, but I am sure it was the black-and-white pattern. I didn't even think to look for books with the same pattern until a few months later, when I searched for and found these. (I had never seen or heard of books like these before I went looking for them.) I researched and read reviews for several different high contrast baby books and I thought these looked the best. I bought a couple for my son and a couple for baby gifts. I was thoroughly happy with my purchase, would definitely buy again (and probably will for future baby showers). I am glad that for my next baby, I will have these much earlier in the game.

My son is obsessed with this book at six weeks of age. If I put him down on his back and stand the book up next to him, he will stare at the pictures for an entire hour, cooing and babbling and kicking excitedly the entire time. I wish I knew what he was talking about! I've never seen him as animated and interactive as he is with this book. He especially loves the panda page.To illustrate the magical power of this book: this morning, he was acting a little crabby after nursing, arching his back and squirming around. Usually, I can get him to stop doing that if I just walk around with him, rock him, or change the position in which I'm holding him, but nothing was working. So I put him down with this book, and he immediately started contentedly babbling at the pictures, as if absolutely nothing was wrong. That was over an hour ago, and he still hasn't tired of it. Anyone who knows anything about the attention span of infants can tell you that this is an exceedingly long time.I'm so glad I discovered this book -- it is my new go-to shower gift!

My baby loves look look so I got this one too and baby isn’t interested near as much.

This was my baby's favorite book! I bought this and another Peter Linenthal book for my baby when she was a newborn and she loved them! She's seven months old now and we've gone on to look at some more colorful books, but this is definitely worth buying. We looked at these books several times a day. Her eyes fixated on the black-and-white animal shapes and patterns (her favorites were the puppies, school of fish and zebra). As she got older, she would kick and make noises when she looked at it. If I moved the book, she would move her eyes and follow the book. I could just tell she was being stimulated by the designs. I definitely recommend this book!

Cute book, my baby is very engaged looking at the black and white images, however, it arrived in pretty beat up condition.

Love this series of board books for my baby! They capture an infant’s attention very easily with the contrasting colors and simple pictures and words. I would recommend them to any parent - these books are the perfect baby shower gift to add to baby’s book collection.

The book itself is very interesting as for the newborns up to 6 mnths maybe. It was in good condition as well..

excellent pictures, made of solid material

Great book. Very good for newborn babies and beyond. Few words, but for that age that us great. My baby boy is always interested in this book. Never gets bored.Only thing the quality of the pages could be better. They are very thin for a board book and the black ink is scratched a little bit.
