The 47x36” mat has a tongue. The corners are rounded so the narrow part which goes under the desk (tongue) is roughly 10x19”. That leaves the largest part of the mat with around 37x36”.

The dimensions imply a rectangular shape but the images show a tongue or narrower portion that goes under the desk. How wide is that narrow portion?

The narrow portion “tongue” is 18x9” on the size that I ordered which was the smaller one
