Great Educational Tool Disguised As A Toy
My 9 year old received this for X-mas and it was a big hit for the entire family. It ended up taking more parent involvement than expected, but that added to the appeal/bonding time/history lessons. The puzzle portion was a challenge to put together (lots of similar color/shaped pieces), the 3-D foam pieces of the states & mountains were OK for layers 2-5, and the landmark pieces were fun to determine what they were and what state they belonged to. All in all, it took a SOLID three days to assemble, the longest time being the 1st layer/jigsaw portion. As a parent, I absolutely loved the history of the US, learning about the expansion territories, major roads & mountains, and monuments, and the kids loved the "cool" factor of the 4-D assembly. They also give you double sided tape to keep the layers together, but we opted not to use them. And note, you will need very strong scissors or package cutters for the landmark pieces.

Very nice puzzle and educational too!
Ok, it's not an easy puzzle to put together, but a sense of satisfaction comes out of completing it. The bottom layer is like a traditional puzzle which has about 900 pieces. It was nice as it showed how the USA was originally divided up and how through events like the Louisanna Purchase the country grew to what it is today. Another layer went overtop of the base map and a third layer included landmarks and buildings which brought the map to life . While most of it was built by mom and dad, still the time spent on it was fun and drew the family closer together in my opinion.

Fun puzzle! My children loved putting this together and learning about the US. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was that some of the puzzle pieces were so similar that we put the wrong piece in place a couple of times. Besides that, my kids really enjoyed it and I plan to purchase the New York version of this puzzle next.

Great Educational Puzzle
The kids loved having something to do and we loved the geography lesson. These are pretty sturdy. Very young ones might need help but they learned more by being immersed in a game in which they had to search out pieces based on the location they needed to be put in. This is one of those instances that kids might not forget as easily what they learned. I enjoyed listening to them search for "New York" and other places. Much better then a simple memorization method.

This series of puzzles is a lot of fun! Keep in mind it's not meant for ypunger kids...but makes a great family activity in which youunger children can easoly participate. We've done the New York in the past over a Christmas break and this one just now over thanksgiving weekend. Onne the base layer is done which is the most difficult and time consuming the other two layers take very little time and are a lot of fun. Once completed it looks amazing on the wall.

It's fun, but it didn't satisfy
I did enjoy putting together the puzzle, but the end step of putting in the buildings/structures, I let sit for several weeks. Part of the reason is that they plastic pieces were so small, numbering hard to read for older eyes. Another reason is that they shapes really don't do justice to the structures they represent in many cases. The Hollywood sign looks like the side of a mountain with nothing on it. Las Vegas was a block with a flag and it was the one piece that actually broke. To me, it would have been more interesting if the jigsaw map including Native American tribal areas instead of city names. Instead of highlighting buildings, maybe highlight historical events at those locations. But there is still much that can be learned using this puzzle as a baseline. If you are going to use this as a teaching tool, I would recommend it as an engaging way to learn US geography and history. I am going to package up ours and send it to my grandson.

Excited to buy; very, very disappointing
This puzzle is a nice idea that is very poorly executed. * The first layer is a regular puzzle; but considering the audience (age 8) the pieces are smaller than I expected. But that isn't a terrible problem as our 6-year old - a puzzle fanatic - didn't have an issue with that. However, he was stumped a few times because so many of the pieces are interchangeable that you really can't tell when you have pieces in the wrong spot. * The layer of foam is very easy to assemble. Kids will definitely need help punching out the cutouts for the "statues/monuments". If they do it themselves, some shapes will be ruined. * The real problem with this is the last step - inserting the statues/monuments into the foam. It's impossible. These are little plastic pieces - think Monopoly houses/hotels, but with less detail. There is so little detail on the figurines, it was just a guess. If there would have been a key, that would have been great, but the key that they provide shows a picture of the actual monument - not the figurine. I lived in DC and walked past the White House every day for 3 years - I can't tell which of these plastic pieces is the White House. Even the Washington Monument - which is pretty identifiable - could be any of 3 pieces. I was happy to return this. It provided much more frustration than enjoyment. The kids would never, never do it a second time.
