A good read!
Provides an idea of how to conduct a Church service. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid process for conducting a Church service. I gave it four stars; because, in part, I would liked to have seen a more fuller treatment of how African-Americans were originally treated during worship service, which spun a denomination where they could worship God in a Wesleyan tradition.

Easy Informative Book for Lay Leaders
This book was required reading for a lay leadership class. However, unlike the first book I was required to read, this book was informative, inspirational, and not at all a burden to read. I was not raised Methodist so there were many things I did not know about the Wesleys and Methodism. I hope to lead worship in the future, and this book gave me ideas and some confidence. It also taught me about the Book of Worship which I was really not aware of before. Being an organist and singer, I was particularly interested in the history of music in the church. This book is very "readable", and I looked forward to learning more. It will continue to be a wonderful resource.

Great History
This is a great book about the history, the rituals & the reasons of our worship service but it does need to be revised and updated to show the changes in our worship in the last 10 years

But I'm happy I read it
This book was required for a class I just completed. I would not have chosen it if it wasn't. But I'm happy I read it. Professor Hickman did a masterful job of condensing a ton of information into such a short book! Very well done.

Necessary for UMC
Read as a need to better understand the worship in the UMC. The book although dry was informative. Read this foe a class.

Fine publication
One of the best short books I've read and used for planning worship service - from the standpoint of a lay person, not an ordained clergyman.

I haven't read it yet.
This book is for a first semester class at the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. I have not received a syllabus for the class so I do not know what to read.
