it should be fine as long as it is plugged into a GFCI protected outlet.

Does the name imply this serves other unique functions?

No its just sockets it doesn't pop up , You physically pull it up and push it down.

Are you sure the cut out is 2.95"? I have a 3" hole saw bit and it still looks small. I bought 2 of these to go through my granite top. $2500 if not.

I actually need to drill a 3 1/4" hole for mine. I can send you some pics of mine with the tape measure pictured so you can clearly see. Send me your email address and I'll send you the pics if you'd like to see them. I always recommend waiting to do anything to granite until you have everything together. Mistakes are expensive!
