So far so good!
I just got mine and hooked it up. At first I was upset because it was LOUD and barely let much water through even on high! 🙃 But I kept messing with it and figured out how to pop it open and insert the little ceramic rings and also saw the little shield for the propeller was popped off. So I pushed that back on, popped the container of ceramic rings in and now it runs quiet AND has power!! This is on almost the lowest setting! It can really push out if you want it to which we might change when we get our larger aquarium!

Works well but be ready to get wet and dirty with maintenance
Installled this in a 20 gallon planted tank and added an air pump since it had the inlet feature which is nice. It moves the water well and filters really good. Only gripe is cleaning the filter media. Removing it and cleaning everything out and putting it back is a task and disturbs the tank more than I like. May have to modify my lid so that I can put an over the back filter which is more convenient and less bothersome to the tank.

Does not work
These do not work. I bought one and put it in my 20 gallon. It never started so I ordered a replacement just to check. The second one came and started, but then stopped after about 10 to 15 minutes. I took it out of the tank, clean it out, re-plugged it back in, and it would not restart. I will not be re-buying this.

So far, so good! Doing it’s job if only for a few hours at this time.
I used it for my turtle tank, which has a lower water level to allow basking areas in the tank, out of the water. One thing I wish it said in the directions for use is that the filter CAN stick out of the water on top, as long as the water intake area is submerged. At first I thought it had to be completely submerged, which was not going to work with the shallow level of water I wanted in the tank. I only figured that out by looking at the troubleshooting section of the directions. It mentioned that if the water didn’t cover the intake area, air would be sucked in and it would be noisy. So I took that as it would work as long as that was covered. Worked perfect then as far as the water level I wanted, along with the filtration I needed.

Louder than I feel like it should be
I had it for a short time wasn’t impressed maybe would work for a tiny tank with an extremely low bio load

Great little filter
For the price and size, a very good filter. Silent and powerful. Easy to clean. If it makes noise, check the impeller.

No filter cartridges for sale for this model
I have a planted nano tank and the internal built-in filtration was comical, so I looked for a submersible filter and found this model. Hygger makes awesome lights. Pass on this. They don’t even make the replacement filter cartridges for this that I could find anywhere. Cartridges usually aren't my thing since better filter floss can be used instead at a savings, but for this model, the filter is kind of sensitive and doesn't seem to want to work without the stock cartridges. That they don't seem to sell at the moment. Today I rinsed off the filter media for re-using and it was nearly black so I cut filter floss I use for larger aquariums and then the filter stopped working. I threw the filter pretty far and now I need a new one. I would pass on this. Frustrating!

Big filter; get smaller than you need
Honestly, this filter would be WAY too big for anything under 10 gallons. I like that it fit nicely in the corner like that, but it's still taller than I thought it would be, making it impossible to hide. I honestly should have gotten the 1-8 gallon one (I bought the 5-15 for my 10 gallon tank) too because even on the lowest flow setting, I have to turn the output towards a corner and try to make a wavebreak to lessen the flow for my betta. He's a little guy and it's a touch too strong for him sometimes. However, the filter comes apart nicely and is very quiet, so it was worth the price for the tank I have.
