I decided to spend the extra money this school year and get these for my high school boys who need to bring a lot of food to school because they have after school practices. This is a significant upgrade to what we were using before in that these hold much more food securely. They are heavy and large, which is something to consider when buying these. I included photos of a common type/size of lunch bag the kids use today so you can see that these do fit in here and the lid closes. You cannot fit a drink in the main bag part with the Bentgo box, however, this type of bag has a bottom part that zips open and can hold a drink along with a zip front pouch and back mesh pocket for snacks etc. So this will work for us. Just make sure you measure your lunch bag/box if you have to carry this size Modern Bentgo. Inside the box you have a large compartment on the left that has a removable divider so you can use the entire space if you need to. The right side does not have a removable divider. The box easily snaps shut and feels extremely durable, like it will last for many years. Overall, for the hefty price, I believe if you are looking for something that will last, need to pack a big lunch for teen boys/others, and need to eliminate the headache of using other containers that leak or are cheap plastic, this is a great investment! The company has an amazing hassle free warranty, exchange, and customer service program with an email and phone contact for support along with a one year extended warranty on this product. It is also very gift-able, in that it comes in a nice sturdy box with a handle on it. 6/25/2024 review update: I had to use the customer service support via email on the company website and can report that they do stand behind the product. I received a free replacement due to the hinges breaking on the box. The hinges will definitely break on these if you open them and put stress on it. I was washing them by hand and laying them open upside down to dry. This was putting too much tension on the hinges and it did not take too much for them to break. Unfortunately, the plastic hinges once broken cannot be repaired, rendering the lid and box useless. So my advice for washing is to hand wash and air dry with lid open but not upside down. Make sure anyone using a box knows not to put stress on the hinges of the lid. Once it breaks, you cannot repair it yourself as the hinges are plastic. A redesign of the lid which makes the hinges more durable or even replaceable somehow would make this product much more appealing given the product is pretty costly. You want the product to last. Given that the company is replacing them if they break, I still can recommend them. It was really fast how the company responded and I had my replacement within a week.

We have always used Bentgo lunch boxes for the kids' school lunches. When they were younger, they had bright fun colors. Since my kids are older now and "too cool" for those little kid colors (even though they still would have worked perfectly after years and years of use), we needed to upgrade to more sophisticated colors. We bought the Modern Navy and Dark Grey for them. We love them. The new style is not as dishwasher friendly as the little kid ones with the hinges that bend all the way back. These do take up way more space in each dishwasher load to clean them since they only open at a 90 degree angle. Other than that, we still love the product being completely leak-proof and easy for them to use at school and looking much 'cooler'! We had one lid break off already this school year after only one month of use (first time ever with these products). Customer service was fabulous and sent out a replacement right away. Would definitely buy again.

Final review: the same thing happened with our second box and we’re just going to get a second box of a different brand we already own. The other box has an hinge that opens a little more than 180° and is really helpful for drying on the rack, packing, eating and cleaning. It’s just not as delicate. Update 2: Despite buying this on Amazon, I reached out to the Bentgo customer support via email. They were quick to respond and send out a replacement box once I sent in the requested documentation of damage. I had my box on my doorstep 36 hours later. I’m incredibly impressed. Update to my initial review- I always hand wash these boxes, this one is used by my 1st grader so it’s not roughed up. It’s always packed inside of an insulated lunchbox and is never forced closed. And it’s one of a few she has so it’s not used even 5 days a week. Maybe 2 at the most as it’s not her preferred box. And after less than 4 months the back hinge just cracked right off. Didn’t even make a sound, just popped off so easily that I thought I would be able to reattach. But nope, broken. Very very disappointed. I purchased a few bentgo boxes last year for my kids’ lunches and they were wonderful. But as they grew the boxes weren’t large enough for the amount of food they wanted to take. So I snapped this up this year and it not only looks nice and sleek, and the handle is so pretty against the green color of the box, but it holds so much. I’m able to pack my 1st grader a proper lunch and not cram it in. We still pack a few snacks outside but it holds the bulk now. I also like that the adjustable divider has two options or can be fully removed for one large main space. Our silicone dividers we purchased separately fit nice in the other spaces and it seals perfectly.

So I am on my second version of this lunchbox. The first one lasted quite some time until I handed it down to my son. Didn't last more than a month. I ordered another one thinking it was just because my first one was getting a little old. Well, to my surprise they completely updated the hinge system and it's no longer a small, two little nub system. They have made it a larger tab and even added a small, metal rod for support. So if you were on the fence about this due to reports of the hinge breaking. Have no fear. An update was made and it is much more sturdy than before. And none of mine have ever leaked. I've had mine sideways in a laptop bag with oil and vinegar dressing and never experienced a leak. Overall a great product. Docked it one star because of the prior poor hinge design.

Excellent! Sandwiches, charcuterie set up, fruit, crackers, and whatever else I drop in for an easy lunch fits and is separated perfectly without leakage. I wish I had been introduced to this earlier. I have colleagues taking photos so they can order as well. Yeah, a little thing like a great lunch box almost seems like an afterthought yet creates so much interest and excitement. I’d love to have a double-walled insulated version of this, maybe stainless, to keep things cool or warm without a cooler bag but this still goes to work with me every other day.

So far, I just got this for my daughter because she had to have this brand. I'm already disappointed. Here are some reasons why it's pretty impractical for a kid: 1) it isn't insulated. This means you have to also add an ice pack to a lunch bag. For being so big, I just thought it was insulated and could keep things warm or cold. 2) Size: This container barely fit into her kid sized insulated lunch bag. Waiting to see how it holds up with a small thin ice pack and hoping my child isn't made sick from the lack of cooling power a small ice pack has in relation to this. 3) Washing it: when you wash the inside of the container, you have to take out the insert. You cannot take out the lid part though which would also get messy because it's built into the container. This means both the insert and container need washed. And to dry the container, it only opens to 90 degrees, so you have to open it precariously on your drying rack to let it dry out and hope the hinges don't break. Thankful this thing has a three year warranty, cause I see that coming! 4) by other reviews, I see things like yogurt are likely to leak between containers, which is one of the things I hoped to put in here. 5) you are stuck to the shape of this container. So if you want to pack a applesauce pouch or chips, it won't fit in a lunch which sucks cause my daughter insists she wants either soup (hot) and carrots (cold)... Which won't work in here together or a sandwich with cold sides... And she gets sick of having the one sandwhich she likes daily, so this cannot be used daily for us, which is what I was hoping because it's HUGE to have laying around the house. Overall, I am thinking I overpaid for a fancy brand that actually does NOTHING well. Overall, I wish I had better convinced her to use get the snack bento. I think it's way better option for the things she actually eats. Or just stick to her thermos and individual food containers inside and insulated lunch box with an ice pack. Buying this feels like an expensive mistake for something I will likely ultimately Marie Condo in less than a year!
