I broke my old trusty tater masher after 20 years of abuse. I'm really surprised it lasted that long. I happened across one similar to my old one for $6 while grocery shopping so I decided to give it a go. Half way through it's first potato mashing, the handle came right off in my hand. I slid the handle back on and limped it through it's maiden voyage before tossing it into the trash and fired up Amazon to research its replacement. I ran across this particular stainless steel tater masher, looked it over and read the reviews, and realized this was the one. This will be the heirloom that I pass down through the generations. I can actually see it lasting that long. It's a beast! Taters dread coming into my house out of pure fear of my newfound mashing ability. They try to slip through unscathed but they didn't stand a chance. This masher's design assures smooth smashed potatoes at a record clip. I can get potatoes to their smooth creaminess in about half the time to took me previously... and they're much smoother than before. I am rating 5 stars for being easy to clean, 5 stars for sturdiness. and 4 stars for ease of use. The hole on the end of the handle for hanging it makes using the masher almost uncomfortable during use. It could just be my technique of mashing with the handle in the palm of my hand. It's not sharp ,but it's not palm friendly either. If I knew for a fact that the handle was solid, I'd cut off the end and grind it out smooth and it would be perfect. If you're looking for a sturdy, quick, easy to use masher that's a breeze to clean, look no further.
