Sociable Cutthroat Chess with Sheep
Our family has played this game countless times. A lot of fun for two to four people (my husband and I will challenge each other after the kids are in bed). The changing board is a huge factor in it's replayability. This is sociable chess for people of all ages. My husband and I have enjoyed chess for years and yet more often than not lose to our nine-year-old when we play this game (and we do not go easy on him!). Our three-year-old understands the rules enough to play which makes for a very interesting game. With two long term thinkers trying to out strategize each other, a ninja sheep sneaking around and taking all the fields, and a random sheep whose only quest is to block others on her turn, the games are never predictable! The games are quick and we will usually play at least three games every time we have a game night. High quality components. Love the sheep chips (weighty and a delight to touch), the board pieces are grippy on the underside which means that they stay in place no matter how vicious the war that is waged on it's serene pastures. So easy to explain, so quick to play, yet still a lot of strategy. I highly recommend this game.

Bam Ram Ewe - Great Game for a few (2-4)
Bam Ram EWE - This game is a keeper. It plays 2-4 players ages 7 to adult. My kids (10+) were able to grasp the rules very quickly. The concept is easy to understand - You move a stack of sheep disks in a straight path on the game board. You may take as many sheep with you as you like, but you must leave at least one sheep behind. The object is to block you opponent(s) sheep stacks in so they won't be able to place as many sheep as you. The game says to count the sheep on the board, but we found it much easier to simply count the number of sheep left on your stacks after all the moves were made. This game is super-fun! My family enjoyed playing it. The great thing is that it plays very quickly! Average game time is about 10 minutes, so it leaves a lot of room for replay. Younger players may not be able to move their stacks without them falling down a lot, or may not be able to realize the strategy elements in the game. Believe me, the strategy elements are needed to win if you are playing someone a little older. The board is built for each game, so you change the game by changing the way the board is laid out. Two player action is fun, but three or four is awesome, because you have to watch your back. My kids blocked me in within 5 moves of the game, and I had 9 sheep not used! I didn't see it coming until it was too late - and I am pretty good at these type of games. I was so busy concentrating on blocking my wife in, that I didn't see my son block me from the left then my daughter blocked me in on the right. My wife sealed the deal by moving on of her sheep which cut off my only chance of escape. I couldn't do anything about it by the time it was my move - my 9 sheep were stuck! In retrospect I should have only risked 2 or 3 sheep, but never thought the kids would think so dastardly. Game on I say! We will be playing this game for years I suspect. This weekend we will be playing it with all adults, so I imagine it will be crazy cutthroat! I can't wait!

Great game, Kids and adults genuinely like it!
We love this family game. My kids are ages 7 and 11. We are able to play as a family. Everyone understood the rules just fine, and even the adults were able to really play. The concept of the game is simple enough that younger kids can play along. It introduces some strategic thinking and planning for children, and they had fun ganging up on the adults. It really is a quick game, we can play a round in about 20 minutes with 4 people. Because you set the board up each time you play, it is a little different every time. The quality of every piece is outstanding! I was impressed with chips, they are heavier in weight and indestructible. They are not cardboard, so they will withstand lots of handling. I highly recommend this game!

Very approachable but still makes you think.
Battlesheep is fun. Its so easy to learn but there is subtle strategy - especially as the board can change each game so no two games are alike. My 7 & 9 year olds enjoy it. Its quick to setup, quick to play, and quick to pack back up. While smaller kids may get the rules and the concept (its pretty simple), their little hands may struggle to move the really tall stacks of sheep esp at the onset of the game. The pieces are very well made but a tall stack can topple pretty easily if you're not somewhat deliberate. Happy to have this in my collection.

Fun Family Game, Encourages Strategic Thinking
Great family game. The object of the game is to spread your sheep herd (round tiles) over the pasture (game board) and to prevent your opponents from taking pasture. You start with a stack of round tiles and take turns moving as much of the stack as you want to as long as you leave at least one piece behind. You continue to move your stacks - in a straight line - one player at a time, until you have spread all your tiles (sheep) or can't make another move because your stack is blocked. It's a hands-on game with good quality, well-made pieces. The game takes about 10 or 15 minutes. We've even played at a restaurant while we waited for our food. Fun! My kids aged 6 and 7 caught on quickly, although my six year old doesn't really play "against" the other players, she really just thinks about spreading her tiles out over the board. It's fun to watch the kids thinking spatially as they plan their moves, or realize that they have made a "bad" move that limits their options.

Cute little abstract strategy game
INTRO: Fun abstract strategy game with a modular board, so replayability is good. Age range is easily 8+, maybe even lower if kid is smart. Theme is kind of pasted on, but it's fun and cute and kid friendly. SET-UP: Set-up is a breeze, and actually kind of fun, as well as important to gameplay. Each player gets 4 'tiles' (consisting of 4 hexagons each) and take turns placing these tiles one at a time to form the board for the game. It's cool making different boards, and even trying to form holes in the middle for optimizing strategy level. Then each player takes turn placing their stack on one of the outer edges of the newly formed board. GAMEPLAY: Gameplay itself is pretty simple. You have a stack of 16 chips (various color with sheep on them), and are attempting to distribute said stack to as many spaces as you can over the course of the game. All the while you are trying to block your opponents from doing so. Each turn, you do this by choosing to move any number of chips in your stack in a straight line as far as it will go; you stop at another player's stack or the edge of the board. You must leave at least one chip behind, although you can leave more. This is where the strategy comes into play. The player with the most separate 'stacks' (1 chip counts as a stack) when no more legal moves are open is the winner. In case of a tie, the player with most connected stacks is the winner. In the case of a tie here, then tied players celebrate victory together :) OVERALL: The game is fun and simple, and the modular board is great. Blue Orange has a nice little game on their hands here. Also of note is the quality of the components (top, top notch - bakalite chips, thick board material) as well as the design of the insert storage tray; both are absolutely perfect. The only reason it's a 4 instead of a 5 is because the gameplay itself isn't fantastic, though I did like it. I mean, it's enjoyable, but probably not the best on the shelf. Still, for under $20 I'd say go for it, especially if you have kids. Would be a fun way to spend an hour or two on a casual game night.

Quick to learn and fun for all ages
This game is amazing! This is actually our second copy as it was a highly contested item during divorce settlement. It sounds like it should be like Battle Ship, but it's not at all. You start with a stack of sheep and on every turn, you divide your stack and move a portion of them as far as you can go without obstruction in any direction. The goal is to end up with all your sheep spread across the pastures, and ideally a cut off your opponents so their sheep don't have room to graze. My kids have loved it since they were 7/10 and still love it two years later. Every adult I've introduced to it also loved it. Each game takes about ten minutes (unless you have an overthinker in your group) and takes about 2 minutes to learn. The Bakelite pieces have ridiculous sheep cartoons, some of which look like they've been punched in the gut.

My kids love it
My kids are 6 and 3 and sheep are one of their favorite animals. This is a great addition to our game collection as my husband and I have reached our limit on Sorry, but there aren’t too many games our 3 year old can join in on (and if you have a 3 year old you know they want to join in). With our youngest we would point out his movement options and tell him how many to move (he mainly wanted to move one sheep at a time and to anywhere on the board, but we were able to guide/herd him into following the rules) our 6 year old loved it and even blocked me in at the end. This game could be really cut throat if you let it, but with our young family we made some agreements to not completely box in a herd at the beginning of the game. For now. I can see us playing this for many years, not only because of its entertainment value, but the pieces seem to be really well made as well.

Good for various ages and lots of fun.
Excellent and good fun game with a different layout each time. Easy to learn but a good exercise in strategy! The only drawback when travelling is that it fits together well but needs a flat surface to play on - not usually a problem but in case anybody thinks they could play it in a car or similar. Having said that, it's definitely coming on our next holiday.

Excelente juego
La verdad es un juego sencillo pero muy divertido, creo que es mucho mejor con cuatro jugadores ya que puede ponerse muy competitivo e intenso. La calidad de los materiales es genial, excelente producción. Muy recomendable.

Beautiful and well made game set and pieces
I might have to deduct half a star, because the sheep tiles are so smooth and shiny, they tend not to stack well. Perhaps some notches (similar to checkers pieces) in the next design iteration would be good, but the tiles do feel great in your hand!
