I’ve never used a CNC Machine before purchasing the Genmitsu 3020-PRO MAX, and to be honest I didn’t know if I could figure it out. I have to say that I sure had a lot to learn. Granted I did watch a whole lot of YouTube and seen the different types of machines. The one thing that hooked me was the wood cravings that could be created that as a wood craftsman I could never accomplish with the limited experience I have. I chose this machine over others was first the price, ease of assembly (it comes mostly assembled already) and simplicity of the operation. I purchased my unit in July of 2022 but since I was not ready to start I didn’t open the box till June. Getting the 3020 was pretty easy. Learning the difference softwares and programs was the default part. The box it came in had all the parts and manuals to put it together but was missing a USB stick with the software! At first I was a bit taken back by this and sent an email to the customer service department. This is when I first realized I had made the right choice. A service member (Hong or Mr. Hong) was right on spot with sending me a link to download software. I used a Laptop with Windows 10 and was able to setup the comport and install Candle. A software that uses files called gcode (*.nc file) to tell the machine what to do. Also one of the files was a test file that craved a small 2.5D image. I know this now but didn’t know then that a machine with three axles will only crave 2.5D as the other 0.5 is the flat surface on the bottom. From this one file I was able to figure out the files needed to take a object (2.5D) and turn it into a work of art. To my surprise it actually takes three steps to complete first. 1st was finding the object files. Too my delight in found 1000’s of free files in a *.stl format online. As I’m not going to use these files or creations to sell I downloaded and modified using a software already available in Windows called 3D Build. I then downloaded a trial version of MeshCam. As my CNC machine is located in a spare room, I used another Laptop to modify the files, open these files with MeshCam to create the tool paths and convert the files from an STL file into a NC file that the Genmitsu 3020-PRO MAX uses. I only was able to convert 15 files using MeshCam before the trial version ran out. I have tried other softwares but after using MeshCam I will pay for the license ($250.00 one time payment) as other programs where not as easy to learn and the results as positive. I would have purchased the software already but ran into issues with the stepper motors. I started getting what I first thought was banding with the X and Y axis that increased very quickly, projects halfway completed were being ruined. I emailed Hong and told him my troubles and he sent 2 new stepper motors to me free of charge. I installed the new motors and it’s back to creating beautiful works of art. While the machine was down I was able to give the machine a good cleaning. My only drawback with the machine is that the manufacturer does not at this time offer a explanation kit for this model. I’m hoping one will come out in the near future. Overall I give this one an 4 1/2 Stars. It’s built strong, service is excellent and it’s a very good investment for anyone looking to get into using a CNC Machine.

Edit: Customer service is excellent. Special thanks to Hong from Sainsmart. My PSU failed in the first week of printing but Sainsmart sent me a new one and I’ve been carving up aluminum ever since. It’s handy, sturdy and it works exactly how I would expect it to. Coming from a 3D printing background, I expected to have more tedious issues to iron out but it is a fantastic little machine. Recommendations: 3D modeling and CAM (the tool passes): Fusion 360 G code sender: UGS works really well for me Endmill for cutting aluminum: 1/8 in 3 flute carbide endmill. (Speed tiger here on Amazon hasn’t failed me once. Literally. No snapped endmills ever) Old review: I think it’s a solid little machine and I love it very much. But on my most recent CNC job, as the spindle began to spin at the very start, I hear a pop from my PSU and some smoke came out. I’ve reached out to Sainsmart for support both here and on their website. I hope to get a replacement part and fix the machine because it is lovely to use when it works. I will update this reply when customer service reaches back with me.

It took a bit for me as beginner to figure out all details. It does what it supposed to do. There is alist what you better know: - add any cable holders for top motor otherwise they will rub to the frame (peace of plastic + super glue should do the job) - offline control did not work well and few parts were with wrong paths. Probably feed rate is mismatched. - offline control is not as useful as I thought it would be. Raspbery Pi with GCode sending program way more convenient - there is only one stopper for each X/Y and you better buy extra to install on Amazon. They have all what you need. (Genmitsu 6PCS Micro Limit Switches with 1M 2 Pin Cable for 3020-PRO MAX) - somehow CNC was configured to have ONLY spindle RPM max to 1000 RPM while motor can do 12000. You have to reprogram max value. Not difficult but you better know how to use programs for serial connection. I have no idea why it was limited. - Even if you specify RPM in your program to some exact value you will get something different. Just make it 12000. There is values for my CNC 3020 MAX. <Specified> : <Real RPM> 1000 : ~3800 2000 : 7000 3000 : 8800 4000 : 10000 5000 : 10700 6000 : 11000 7000 : 11500 8000 : 11700 9000 : 11800 10000 : 12300 12000 : 12700 - dust collector MUST have otherwise it will be everywhere. Available on Amazon (Genmitsu CNC ABS Dust Shoe for CNC Machines with a 52mm Diameter Motor). There is options to have cover. Yes cover will keep dust on all parts of your nice CNC... - power cable from power supply is not long enough to keep power supply (with sucking fan inside) from dust generated by CNC. You better extend cable if you do not want dust in the power supply I tried so far mill: mdf, plywood, carbon 3mm, fiberglass 3mm. So far it is good. Might update later. Overall I like this CNC machine. It is my first.

UPDATE: 8/26/22 - I have been watching someone uploading new videos of the router table, their spindle is running smooth & this is my major concern. I am tempted to order again but fear if I get the whole machine put together again then find my spindle, which seemed okay the first time UNTIL I turned it on, will be imbalanced again. It is a hard decision. I think I only got a lemon. It had the bad socket for the Z stepper anyway. Maybe I should order again. I am weighing this option heavily. I want to have this or the proverxl very much. I already have a large CNC machine from Stepcraft (much more expensive line), I want something small. I want to tinker, I want to upgrade, I just want the base machine to also be nice from the start. —-original review below—- I open the package which arrived with small holes in the box. Everything seems fine. First sight of trouble: Little screwdriver handle is cracked. Snapped right off, it was hanging by a thread. “No big deal, just a little screwdriver, I have iFixIt & I will use my own drivers”. Hex keys are okay, they give more than you need for some reason. I go on, assemble frame - wow, solid, very nice. Now comes to wiring. Watch videos, see mess. Try myself. Mess. All thought to frame, NO thought to cable management. For this price, where are cable drag chains or silicone wiring? Plug in steppers last because it is good practice. Discover Z axis Stepper Motor has a little chip out of the plug in socket. “i hear they have good support, I will ask for a replacement I guess - community on FB is good”. Plug it in, seems reasonable - turn on machine. Jog a few times x & y, cool. Jog Z. Vibration. Turn on spindle: Extreme imbalance, vibration. Maybe it is okay, maybe it is not. For 50 dollars MORE than it used to be, for 500+ dollar small CNC, the unit I received is too much of a gamble. I am saddened & depressed about it. I loved everything about it except the wiring + the broken stepper plug (another reviewer had this issue, theirs was worse, mine was still enough to worry). I give Tech Support 4 stars because community seems to love them & their community is active on FB. Accuracy low because this kind of imbalance could not ever be accurate. YMMV. For beginners I will give 3 stars. Maybe? It is not difficult to assemble. It is sturdy. The QC issues I have faced ultimately lead to me now returning the machine. The gamble is too high :(

Junk. Not leveled. No way to factory level. Depth is inaccurate. Stops midway thru projects even with ultra conservative depths. 300 Chinese watts must be different. Least accurate machine I've owned.

so this is probably the best bang for your buck desktop cnc and its a solid platform to build off of. the new foxalien 3020 just dropped for $400 more and has all the upgrades ive been making for my genmitsu/sainsmart. you can upgrade the lead screws to ball screws, you can easy change the y axis to linear guides, but absolutely nothing will fix the spindle deflection. the weak point of the whole 3020promax is the junky motor they give you and the inability to change to a better beefier setup. the fox alien fixes this easily and even allows router and vfd spindle mounting for serious aluminum cutting. its can be done to the promax if youre handy with cad and a mill, but i dont know of any off the shelf conversions available yet. none the less for about 200$ in amazon rails and ball screw kits and some very minor tapping and drilling for a spindle mount plate you can catch up to the foxalien and have a more stout frame

This has been a great hobby machine for me. The precision is on part for what I expect from this level of machine. My projects are small and I know I'm not using this machine to it's full potential. So far, this machine has yet to let me down. I mainly cut printed circuit boards and some very light aluminum projects. For aluminum, be patient and use good tooling. Cheap bits will let you down. I would say that the learning curve is steep but with AI and plenty of maker boards, you should be able to find out everything you need.

I like how well built this machine is, but I have had to return 2 of them already. In both cases I was cutting 1 mm copper on very conservative settings 1 mm/s for plunge and feed rates at 12K. The machine stops. The y-limit switches are both on when it stops but the bed is nowhere near the limit switches. And it is dead. It won't move in y. Nothing seems to fix it. So there must be a design fault. I looked at other reviews and customers that have issues, have issues when cutting metal. But at the settings I was using is was doing well but it would just die. Always in the same way. It does cut well for acrylic which is the other thing I use it for. As always with Chinese manufacturers getting ahold of them can be frustrating, good luck finding that link on Amazon. Prior to this machine I returned 2 Lunyees they are worse than this. One was dead on arrival with a limit switch not working and the other started drifting off the toolpath. I don't know, they are probably fine for wood and acrylic. There has to be a design flaw because both failed in the same way, with different end mills.

This mini Cnc 3020 pro max arrived well packaged. This machine is well thought out because it is extremely easy to assemble because all the different parts are pre-assembled, the holes drilled and tapped. It is a comfort for any person (beginner, intermediate or confirmed). I followed the installation manual in English without difficulty. Everything is referenced and imaged. It took me nearly 45 minutes (unpacking + assembly) to get the final machine. This Cnc 3020 pro max has all the possible options. Nothing is to be purchased additionally. It has: a rigid aluminum plate of 30x20 cm, limit sensors, reinforced axis guides, a depth sensor, an external screen. There's even the micro SD card adapter included with the screen. The parts of the frame are massive and neat, it is a guarantee of quality. Safety is also an asset with its emergency stop and its box which hides the electronic part. All these options make this machine a reliable and efficient means of production. To improve the life of the top, it is advisable to install a martyr plate of the MDF wood type. Ideally, it allows rapid prototyping at home, in school to learn about engraving or machining easily. I carried out some tests using the Grbl software and the files present on the USB key supplied with the machine. Just connect the machine to the "Com port" with the USB cable. Grbl software icons are very intuitive. All you have to do is make the machine origin in x, y and z, then open the file and start machining. Whether engraving or machining, with tests on plastic or wood, the CNC is up to my expectations. I highly recommend her.

Shipment was quick and building the machine was easy. After a few runs the spindle motor stopped working. After contacting Tech Maker they shipped a new motor from China to the Netherlands in a few dates. Great product and great service!

Really nice machine to start with.

I'd been down a YouTube rabbit hole watching CNC videos so I knew how these machines worked in theory. So long as you understand that this machine is small and designed for engraving you will be very satisfied. Working with hardwood has been a blast. Making small signs works great and I had been able to surface my material with a 1 inch surfacing bit without problems. Milling small items such as a ring box can take some time so making sure your g code is efficient will help. While working with hardwood (beech) I have found that a 1mm depth of cut produces a very clean finish without chatter. Personally I have been using 1/4 inch end mills with a cheap collet I purchased from amazon. The machine is very accurate and works great with very minimal setup. The most important feature of a CNC machine is rigidity. This is the reason I passed on all of the previous 3018 CNC's. This 3020 pro max is a much better design with much better components, and simply the best CNC engraving machine of its size available. This one is worth your money. I am very satisfied.

The overall kit itself was very easy to assemble. Great instructions and lots of spare parts. The quality of all the cut parts was clean too. Overall, as a kit, I'm very happy with it! However, one of the screws on my Y-axis coupler was stripped making it impossible to disassemble for the Y-Axis extension. I ended up using a combination of tools to get it apart, but damaged the coupler. The Sainsmart team sent me a replacement coupler overnight ASAP while I built the rest of the extended gantry. They took responsibility for the damage and didn't make it a hassle for me. Best support from a company that I've seen in a long time.
