Moen Smart Shower 4-Outlet Digital Thermostatic Shower Valve with 3/4" Connections, S3104, Black

September of 2022 we remodeled the master bath from top to bottom. My wife had a design planned down to the cabinet hinges but allowed me this one indulgence. We got the 4 outlet valve and controller and it is a luxury that is quickly becoming a necessity. It did not appear to be difficult to install, our contractor commented that he had not installed one of these yet but after reviewing the instructions he stated he could handle it with no issues. He was true to his word and it worked perfectly right off the bat. One thing I would recommend is to make sure the valve is mounted where you can get to it easily, it has 2 filters that can get clogged and you need access to handle that if it pops up. Another thing is be sure you can access where the power supply and battery backup connect to the valve. The first month we had it we had a power "flash" where we lost power for about 2 seconds and the controller display went blank and we had no connection to the device. I unplugged the power cord and battery pack, waited about 30 seconds and plugged them back in and we were back to normal with all programming intact. There have been no issues since then. It is quite the luxury to lay in bed and tell Alexa "Ask Moen to start preset 1 (or 2), hear the shower come on and just lay there until it heats up to your pre-set temp where it pauses and waits for you to push the button to restart. You get used to this real quick. You don't have to start it with voice control, you can just as easily push the button to activate one of the presets and even adjust the temp on the panel or through the app. You can set it to activate 1 outlet or all 4 at once and can change these during use with the touch of a button. Our set up had a dual shower head and 2 body sprays (body sprays count as 1 device) in front and a hand held device and 2 body sprays on the side set closer to the back so 2 people can shower at once. If you take a minute to adjust all of them you can get all 7 devices spraying you at once. The water pressure with all of them open isn't great but it's still a luxurious feeling. And the lack of knobs and diverters gives the large shower a clean look. Set up on IOS was a breeze and I'm still learning more about the device. I used my iPhone and had no issues but it will not work with my iPad. This was disclosed in advance so it was not a problem. The only issue I'm still working on is the naming protocol for the presets. I named preset one John's shower and preset 2 Jane's shower but they will not respond as I want. If I say "Moen start preset one" I get a 105 degree shower that pauses when it reaches temperature. If I say "Moen start John's shower" it heats up to 100 degrees (the default temp) and does not pause, just continues to run. Same with Jane's shower. If anyone has figured this out yet drop me a line. I gave it 5 stars with no hesitation. If anything changes I will update my review.

This is the future, installation choices are amazing with this, unit maintenance is excellent. Deduct 1 star for moen service, it is very hard to get through to them, but the warranty service is good after. Will never install a traditional shower valve if possible.

Updated 1 year later: Initially, I gave this product 1-star with a scathing review due to a problem where after a power outage, the device wouldn't activate the water valves. I would have to shut off the supply valves "fiddle with it", power cycle it, and then open the valves again before water would flow. I got the obscenely priced battery backup pack (a 6 D-Cell plastic case with a common power wire) and I haven't had a problem sense. Due to this quirk, I still ding it one star, but all other features make a 5 star experience. Now that I've had it for a year, I can give it a more fair review. The ability to turn your shower on through a touch pad instead of a handle may seem silly, but there are some things that make this stand out from traditional multi accessory shower controls. 1) Automated temperature control. This will likely be the #1 benefit for all customers. Someone else in the household using water may still reduce pressure somewhat, but the fact that I can enjoy a shower (short or long) without constantly readjusting the hot/cold mix is absolutely heavenly! It is mostly this benefit alone that brought me back to change my review, and was the primary reason for the purchase in the first place. 2) Profiles. It is nice to have a preset temp and accessory selection for me and another preset for my spouse. 3) Home Automation. I have since connected this device to my smart home system (and yes, with a little trick with Apple Home Kit, this can be managed by Home Assistant as well). I'm now spoiled by using my smartphone (or voice) to turn on the shower. By the time I enter the bathroom, the lights are on at a set brightness level and the shower is at temp. I turn off the shower, dry off and walk out; the lights & fans all take care of themselves. Between the "set it and forget it" temperature management, control panel, and smart home integration, this has turned into a daily luxury event. If your budget can accommodate the splurge of this purchase (because this is ABSOLUTELY a splurge fixture), then you will become fond of this unit and the envy of any guest who gets to experience it a few times.
