Q: When using this on new drywall, can I get away with not doing a 3rd skim coat while mudding my joints? Or will the imperfections still show through.

You can probably get away with shipping the third, but depends on existing texture. Heavily textured existing walls should hide, but one with large gaps between the grains will still show straight lines. If you are covering entirely new walls I would do 3rd skim to be safe. It will be significantly more work to undo and fix if you can still see the joints, plus trying to match the texture you applied.

Q: Can this be added to paint that will be used around a fireplace surround? Meaning is it safe around higher temperatures?

I see no reason why it would be. If your surround gets hot enough to melt the paint you have other issues.Follow the mixing instructions. Mix it thoroughly.

Q: For new drywall with the joints already mudded and sanded can I put this in the primer do a couple of coats then paint like normal?

I expect that you could although I have not tried it with primer. Unknown if the material behaves differently in primer vs. paint. I have only used with latex based paint. I would suggest that you prime normal, then paint one coat at the texture desired and then paint normal. Dont know how you would apply this product in multiple coats. Once I got the texture level I wanted would try to do the whole job.

If you want to build up the texture so it shows very well, then use Paint Texture in both coats of paint. If you want to have some texture but not a lot, then use the Paint Texture in the first coat and then just paint again the second coat without the texture after it has fully dried.
