My wife and I have been brewing coffee for years, mainly to get a better bargain than what you get driving through Starbucks (PNW native here, these are fighting words already where we're from), but also because the quality compared to drip coffee from these types of establishments is either burnt, old, bitter, take your pick. It hasn't always been this way, we used to watch our checking account drain as the addictive convenience of getting a morning boost in the car was too good to turn down. But the pandemic (and with it, working from home) brought us back to brewing our own more consistently, and believing we would be doing this for a while we thought it necessary to put some time and effort into researching what roasts would earn their way into our cupboard. Heed all who read further: your search for your new favorite home-brewed coffee ends here. We have tried all of "Real Good Coffee Co.'s" whole bean roasts which we grind daily and drip through our Braun filtered coffee maker (another topic but wow, best kitchen appliance ever), and not one disappointed. Every. Single. Batch. About as fresh as you can imagine, so much so that my pregnant wife will open it when it arrives just to smell it, never at a time of day where we are even brewing coffee, it's great. I tend to go towards the Breakfast blend myself, she prefers the dark, but we have not gotten a single batch that was even slightly off in terms of freshness. Very consistent on the roast, so we expect and are delivered the same quality every time. And in an air-tight 2 lb. bag you definitely get a killer deal per cup compared to the afore mentioned drive-thrus. We tried so many highly-rated roasteries from all over the world in our quest, and plenty of small local shops as well (good ones out there also, support local! Just a different experience-go through their drive-thrus!), and RGCC wins every time. I'm almost certain I've formed an addiction, and aknowledging that for me is the first step to buying more bags, baby. This is a 100% unsolicited review, and in fact I very rarely write reviews (don't let the wordiness of this one fool you, I just finished a cup and the power of the bean is manifesting through my thumbs), however the product these guys put out very much warranted some praise. Plus, it's important that folks recognize the greatness that comes out of the PNW (sorry 'bux, not to knock you here, you play your role), and these guys fit the script!

This is good...I have my favorites notes, flavors or tastes. I'm not a coffee genius when it comes to brewing, but I am picky. I do have my grinds for each type of brewing method and I've liked it almost every time..."thems is good beans." To narrow it down, 90% of the time I find those flavor notes I like and for some roasts I'll get the flavor I like 75% of the time regardless of the grind, so 90 is very respectable and up there with some of the known popular companies. What I like is smooth, some caramel to chocolate hints that is definitely a roasted lightly or mellow, no burnt flavors. It is a little less the target flavors when slow brewed and ground too fine it is not great. My go-to sand like grind with a hint of caking is where I get the best flavors on a electric blade grinder and a slight more coarse with a ceramic rasp type grinder. I would rank these beans in my personal list of about 8.5 out of 10. Scale is major brand instant coffee being 1-2, big company pre-ground and fresh opened brands from 2-5, choice companies whole bean and just opened bag 5-9, small batch super roaster fresh 7-10. Oh...the "D-D" company...6 for whole bean and "S-B" company 7 for whole bean. The last two can be better sometimes, but this is more the average.

I used this coffee as a subscribe & save for about 5-6 months. Good coffee. I usually prefer a coffee bean with an oily coating, which this doesn't have. However, for a light coffee, this has a pleasant, complex flavor profile. It's not too light, and doesn't have the cheap nutty flavor of some of the light/blonde roasts. It has a distinctly earthy tone (probably Asian) which is nice for a light roast. For the price, it's a really good choice. I do want to switch brands and try something new, but will probably return to this one at some point.

I have been called a coffee snob. I disagree. I just like fresh tasting coffee. My favorite cup is usually a natural Ethiopian; however, I don't want that everyday, every morning, etc. This real good coffee (breakfast roast) is what I want. I use 8 TBS of beans, grind to medium, pour over with a liter of water. I use a V60 size 3. My grinder is just a Mr.Coffee grinder...nothing fancy. The crema stays throughout the pours (bloom, pour, final pour). The flavor is Mild and a bit nutty. It goes well with breakfast. I don't detect any notes of fruit, although there may be a subtle Tang that appeals to my buds. All in all, I would buy this again, and I will most likely continue to use it as my daily bean.

My husband and I love this coffee. However it is not always available not sure why? And the price just went sky high! If I switch to something else it’s never as good!

I ordered Breakfast Blend for the first time in late 2023, and I received beans all of same roast : light end of medium. My wife and I liked this product, so we decided to reorder more of it in the near future... So in late July 2023 my wife ordered our 2nd delivery of Breakfast Blend, but much to our disappointment we received a blend of two roasts; medium + dark. It's not hard to imagine such roast blending being commonplace among brands that offer ready-ground coffee, but we didn't expect this in whole bean. Mind you, I've been purchasing whole bean coffees since about 2003, and never before have I gotten a bag filled with anything other than than a single homogeneous shade of brown. BOTTOM LINE You might get a single roast of beans; all of a shade that is the lighter end of medium. That one tasted good to us, even though we couldn't classify it as "true light roast". Or you might get a mixture of both medium and dark beans. That batch had a distinctive burnt flavor, which we don't like. Unless we find later reviews of Breakfast Blend describing it as a single roast that is ACTUALLY ( as opposed to nominally ) not darker than the lighter end of medium roast, we won't repurchase it. Hopefully Real Good will get either their QC act or their labelling act together.

This is good and affordable coffee; highly recommend.

Honestly, some of the best coffee I have ever brewed. I have been a Starbuck's devotee for years, because I love their blonde roast. When I started using the pour-over method, I found the Starbuck's coffee beans didn't really "bloom" correctly. Then when we became quarantined at home, I began to search for a new brand. I ordered the Good Food Breakfast Blend on a whim and a prayer! But I'm so glad I did. The beans are fresh, light and so full of that good breakfast blend flavor. I don't need to add anything to enjoy it, but I do love a little sweetener and half and half. I used to start every weekday with tea and reserve the coffee for weekends, but now I can't resist drinking this brew every single day!

I love the flavor of this coffee it's strong but smooth and gives you a great energy in the morning.

Coffee tastes great! Bag was broken when received though. Beans spreading all over the place in the box. Received an offer of a full refund or replacement later on. Great customer service experience too. Will continue using their products!

This light roast is a great coffee, not the best coffee I've ever had, but miles above the average.

Bit darker than what I'd call a 'light roast' but good coffee none the less.

This shouldn't really be marketed as a light roast, I found it to be pretty darkly roasted and not the flavour I was after. I honestly couldn't even finish it and ended up giving it to a friend that doesn't mind a darker/almost burnt flavour. The price is pretty good, but again, it's not a light roast by any means, and doesn't have the same flavour. Just take a look at the beans, they are basically black in colour and shiny/greasy looking.
