MagMod MagShoe v2, Universal Cold Shoe Flash Mount for Off Camera Flash

I Love Magmod! Love this mount! The quality is great, very sturdy! Good value for the money should last for a very long time. Fits great in my camera bag.May order another one for backup.

This is a very useful accessory for my AD200 and external flashes. It’s simple, sturdy, and easy to use. The included small screw makes it easy to attach to the AD200, adding extra versatility. I spent a lot of time debating whether to buy it, but it turned out to be a great decision. If you need a reliable mounting solution for your flash, this is definitely worth it!

This for me is my most favourite and used magmod product. It is hands down the best way to get a speed light on a light stand. They weigh very little fit easily into my camera bag. Wish it cost less but it's an awesome product. Now my heavy S-brackets stay at home!

I am removing one star strictly due to the relatively high cost for what is a fairly simple accessory. However, despite that cost I do now have three of these and love using them. For anyone that needs to use speedlights off camera, this is an amazing upgrade over the basic tilt umbrella bracket speedlight holders. The improvement is both in the cold shoe and its great locking mechanism compared to the cheap screw type cold shoes on many umbrella brackets, as well as the ergonomic grip and easy to use locking mechanism for the tilt. There is no fiddling with small screws to adjust, it is done with one hand which is great when your camera is in the other. Build quality is VERY solid, I have no concerns about years of heavy use with these. Hopefully the price can eventually come down but I will admit you get what you pay for here.

Flash units with a Sony foot will not go all the way in. However, it still works.

...it would be 5-stars all the way. However, this is definitely one of those items where it would be irresponsible to extol its virtues having only recently purchased it. Only the rigors of day-to-day photography will render a verdict. So consider this first impressions only. The ambition of MagShoe2 is to replace numerous similar devices with good looks and great simplicity. Most lightstand toppers look like erector sets, with complexity to match. The primary feature here is the pistol grip, which facilitates unprecedented ease of adjustment. The MagShoe2 has a beefier cold shoe than before to accommodate MagMod's new heavier softboxes (be careful though - the edges of the new brass reinforcement are very sharp - see photo). The MagShoe2 drops onto the 5/8 pin on the top of your stand and secures with a twist - or you can hand-carry your MagRing/MagBox combination around the set. There's an insertion for an umbrella, and the cold shoe is lockable for speedlights, MagRings, and other stuff. It also comes with an adaptor which allows you attach anything with a 1/4-20 female fitting to the cold shoe. So here's where the word anything comes into question, and that question is capacity and durability. Despite all my research, I cannot determine if the black MagShoe2 body is fabricated from plastic, some super-strong composite, or something else. The yellow trigger certainly seems to be regular plastic. The whole thing only weighs about 6oz - it:s designed to hold their MagRing (made of the same lightweight materials), two rectangular head flashes, and the largest of their MagBox softboxes. My lightstand capacity is 22lbs - no idea if I can place this 6oz gizmo between my lightstand and 20+ lbs of gear. Why? Because there's no info that I can find. This is a wonderful design, but I currently give it three stars for the dearth of information about its construction and load capacity. I did purchase two of them - they're pricey at $60, so I scoured the internet for discounts (hint: internet photographic retailers are fine, but always check the OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) for Open Box specials, refurbs, and First Time Buyer/Sign-Up-For-Our-Mailing-List discounts. Right now I only have a couple of flashes - no softboxes or monolights yet, so I am in no way stressing my MagShoe2s, bur we shall see as I accumulate more gear.

This is more convenient than a regular speedlight plastic hotshoe. Makes the set up flow easily.
