I may not have any authority on the subject as I am new to doing my own guitar maintenance, setups and repairs, but this thing meets all my needs, exceeds my expectations and feels like it was made with old fashioned Made in America pride. It's a basic tool and one could easily DIY craft a simple block and add sand paper to it and it would work just as well, no doubt. In fact, I would recommend doing that first and then buying one of these shortly thereafter so that you could appreciate that much more. If this vendor makes other tools I will probably go the DIY route and then upgrade one tool at a time.I fully support the vendor who crafted this thing and made it possible to swipe the payment authorization on Prime and then have it waiting for me at my front doorstep. Get one, or don't get one, but if you get it I hope you can appreciate the quality and craftsmanship as much as I do.I have zero Internet influence, but if I did I would plug this so more people could get a hold of one and take the risk that they would love the baby Jesus out of it!!! ;)Mr. Vendor, I hope this one little review helps you in BIG ways. I presumed that this leveling beam would be at the least - serviceable. I’ve used several FretGuru products before in the past & they’ve all been quite good in my opinion. Never extravagant but always well designed & manufactured, AND they’re U.S.A. made! Plus, they’re always an excellent alternative to the ‘big name’ & ‘even bigger price tag’ options that can cost 8x as much. However I didn’t expect this leveling beam to seem SO well made. It’s got a very good anodized coating on it that looks great, a really nice blue, but coatings can also occasionally hide shoddy craftsmanship or QC. Laying this beam on a reference plate though, mainly out of curiosity, shocked me with what it showed. Whoever ground this thing flat & then lapped it - KNEW what they were doing. It’s only 0.0004 off being PERFECTLY (and impossibly) straight. Four tenths of one ten-thousandth of an inch. Far below even the standard margin of manufacturing error. I never would’ve guessed that, and if I hadn’t referenced it I wouldn’t have believed it. I didn’t know that ‘that’ was even achievable if you set out on a project to do that.If I had to mention one negative… and even then it’s NOT ‘really’ a negative, as it is everything it’s described to be in the listing… it’s that it only comes with one strip of adhesive backed sandpaper of each grit. It would’ve seemed so much more generous had it included 2 or 3 rather than simply 1 of each grit. But, it’s not as if they said I’d get 2 or 3… and many of the listed leveling beams don’t seem to come with paper at all. The strips included however do seem to be of a pretty decent quality, and they’ve adhered to the beam quite well. Just be careful of getting any wrinkles or bubbles under the paper when you stick it down onto the beam. Because even a tiny wrinkle or bubble can cause havoc when you try to level your frets. The instructions (very clear BTW) advise to heat up the adhesive backed sandpaper gently as that will aid in getting good adhesion. I didn’t take that extra step & mine adhered quite well to both working sides and ended up perfectly aligned & smoothly laid. But to be on the safe side - follow the instructions carefully.All in all - why would you spend upwards of $80-130 for a leveling beam that you may only use a few times (unless you’re a working Luthier with your own shop), when you can spend less than half that amount and still get a very good quality & American made alternative? Even if you ARE a working Luthier with your own shop… this FretGuru beam, judging from what I’ve seen with mine, is just as good!

Worked perfectly 10 inch worked much better than a 6 inch rail.

Just received the 10” sanding beam in the mail today. When I opened the package I thought I had a problem as I couldn’t find the sandpaper which is included with the level. Inside the packaging was a phone number for Fret Guru support, I called the number and within 5 minutes I received a callback from a live person, that’s customer service in action. They kindly drew my attention to the white sticker covering one of the level end caps, SANDPAPER STRIPS INSIDE and we’ll they were. I haven’t used the sanding beam yet but it looks like it’s very high quality and definitely five stars for there customer service, just excellent.

This is a good tool. Some advice.1. Start with higher grit sand paper. the 100 grit and 240 grit are too aggressive that they will take more than enough material out of the frets and will make your frets lower.2. The 100 grit and 240 grit will make the surface of the frets too rough and make your fret polishing job difficult.3. Use some painter tapes (narrow one) underneath the sand paper for easy removal and replacement.

The FretGuru sanding beam is something I should have gotten years ago! makes for quick and accurate leveling of guitar frets (and I'm sure other fretted instruments) Saved me lots of time and did the job well. Highly recommended for anyone who needs to level frets. Having the frets level allows lower string action without buzzing - used this on an expensive Eastman guitar that came (new) with poorly finished frets. Had it in perfect shape in just a few hours with the use of the sanding beam. Give it a try!

Doesn't even look expensive. Probably could have cheaper solution, but you buy this things once, so it will pays of. Don't regret of buying it.

Better than expected. Perfectly flat. Checked against my straight edge! Ends are slightly bevelled.

Was using a level with sand paper but this works way better It’s the perfect weight to take off just enough fret
