I am 70 years old, how hard is it to pull?

Zero resistance to set. Just pull and it ratchets into place and locks where you stop. To unlock just turn the key and it slides down again. It’s reasonably heavy. Hard steel. I’d say about 2-3 lbs.

What is the difference between the LX and original?

Lock mechanism is chrome with a red metal flake plastic covering. The key is flat with laser etching instead of the pointed cross key. If you use it, you probably won't lose it.

need a club that will extend at least 30 inches between hooks?

Not this one!! Looks like 18 inches max
