I like this book bc it has a audio that goes with (download the app) I just wish the book had worksheets to practice writing

Did what I wanted it to do, which was teach me the basics for traveling to Croatia

I've bought this book as first elaborate step into learning BCS languages, since Croatian language uses Latin script.I've found this book very interesting and I could gain more of the language as I read further.The book has a well written summary at the end, that helps the reader to sum up his Croatian knowledge.

I bought the Kindle version of this book and discovered that the audio supplements are available for free through the Teach Yourself Library app (iOS). It took some effort to figure this out (see page 421, Copyright information with the publisher's website). That's why I'm writing this review: to help others locate the free audio.TLDR: get the Teach Yourself Library app (iOS).Still with me? Here's how I found the app. Because other reviews mentioned that the audio was available online, I went to the publisher's website (www.teachyourself.com) and then learned about the app, which I subsequently downloaded. Once I located the "Complete Croatian" resources on the app, downloading the audio into the app was a breeze. All you have to do is create a login and password and it's free. By the way the "Terms and Conditions" and "Privacy Policy" for the app are some of the most straightforward and witty such documents I have encountered. Kudos to John Murray Press! While I am grateful for the free resources on the app and the economical price of the Kindle version of the book, my review rates only four stars because it would have been preferable to have audio links directly embedded in the digital version of the book. But then again, this is from the "Teach Yourself" series, right? Your efforts to find the audio will be rewarded. Good luck or "sretno" (in Croatian)!

Great Book, Too bad the Audio Version does not work. Amazon needs to do something about this problem.

I bought this book seven weeks ago, and so far, it's been a great experience. Before I go any further, I need to warn you to pay attention to what version you're buying. The book is sold either with companion audio, or without. This is reflected in the fine print, and also the price - the print-only version is $25 cheaper. However, the book is exactly the same between versions. I bought the print-only version because the audio version was (at the time), sold out. I just recently discovered that the teachyourself website contains the companion audio to go with the book - and it's free.On to the book...There are eighteen lessons in the book, and each lesson has several dialogues. These dialogues take place between fictional characters, and are set in restaurants, post offices, peoples' homes, etc. Within each lesson, there's a list of vocabulary used in the dialogues.Also, there are in-depth explanations of the grammar, along with exercises for you to complete. The book does an outstanding job of explaining Croatian grammar. Each lesson builds on the previous lesson, and you will eventually learn the cases, how to conjugate verbs, etc.Overall, I'm really happy with this purchase and highly recommend this book.

I've been trying to find the perfect learning resource. As a second language teacher (French), I felt that this resource was bang on! It will be perfect and will come in handy for my summer travels.

Muy didáctico, tienes que bajar una app que se llama teach yourself donde están los audios del libro. Me ha gustado su sistema es efectivo, aunque el idioma es difícil eso no lo arregla nadie

This is a very good book from you can learn by yourself. Various dialogues, exercises and everything I need.

Ich spreche 8 Sprachen und habe die meisten mit der Complete Serie gelernt. Ich war von Anfang an sehr begeistert von dieser Serie, da sie einen, im Gegenteil zu vielen deutschsprachigen Lehrbüchern, auf ein hoch fortgeschrittenes Level (B2) bringen, daher war mir klar, dass ich auch Kroatisch gerne mit dieser Serie lernen möchte. Mir gefällt das Buch und die Themen sehr gut, außerdem mag ich es immer sehr, wenn sich eine Geschichte von mehreren Hauptpersonen durch das ganze Buch zieht; anstatt dass es immer zufällige Geschichten sind. Bildlich könnte man, wie mein Vorredner auch schon meinte, auf jeden Fall mehr machen, aber das scheint ja im Moment auch in den neuen Complete Büchern aktualisiert zu werden. Was mich allerdings am meisten gestört hat, ist, dass es in den Lektionen selbst teilweise mehrere Rechtschreibungsfehler gibt und auch in den Lösungen habe ich mindestens zwei Mal einen Fehler entdeckt. Dies ist mir schnell aufgefallen, da ich sehr motiviert bin und auch nochmal eine kroatische Freundin nach Bestätigung gefragt habe, das hat aber nicht jeder, deswegen finde ich auf jeden Fall, dass man dort bei der nächsten Überarbeitung nochmal genauer hinschauen sollte. Was mich auch stört, ist die ewige Fragestellung mit "Da li", die sehr oft vorkommt, sowie das Wort "zdravo". Dies ist zwar möglich und korrekt im Kroatischen, jedoch ist es von den Kroaten, wie ich später durch meine Freundin und meine Kroatisch Lehrerin erfahren hab, akzeptierter, die Fragestellung "Je li" zu verwenden (Da li ist eher Serbisch) und dass man das Wort "zdravo" in Kroatien besser nicht benutzt, weil dies als unhöflich angesehen werden könnte. Zudem wird bei der Lektion in der man die Zukunftsform lernt, nicht erklärt, wie man eine Fragestellung in der Zukunft ohne "Da li" formt. Ich musste dann selbst herausfinden, dass man dies mit der langen Form von hjeti + infinitiv tut, obwohl vorher gesagt wurde, dass man ausschließlich die kurze Form für die Bildung der Zukunft benutzt. Vielleicht klinge ich etwas pingelig, und es sind auf jeden Fall nur kleine Sachen, denn ansonsten hat mir das Buch sehr gut gefallen, dennoch finde ich, dass man auch die kleinen Dinge noch korrigieren sollte, damit der Leser das volle und vorallem richtige Erlebnis der schönen kroatischen Sprache bekommt, ohne zwischendurch verwirrt zu sein. Ich werde auf jeden Fall weiter mit der Complete Serie lernen und im Vergleich zu deutschen Büchern (spreche hier vor allem von PONS) ist es immer noch das beste Kroatisch Buch in meinen Augen.
