Can I slow this down so it won’t slam a door? I have a new born and the screen door slamming keeps waking him up.

You can change the initial tension so it doesn't slam the door closed, I've got mine set so it doesn't even latch my bedroom door. It just closes the door softly so my cat can open and close the door. This mechanism is merely spring-loaded as opposed to being hydraulic so you just set the tension up initially for how hard you want it to close the door. Can this be used on the inside of a door, that is, not the hinged side?

No it cannot. The bar will touch the frame before you have a fully opened/closed door.

What if I want to leave the door open for a while, for example, while bringing in groceries or moving furniture?

you would have to put some sort of stopper on the bottom of the door to keep the door open.
