Metro Pro 1100

For long rides at night under a moonless sky, this isn't your light. Mainly, the battery will wear out in a few hours. But for just about everything else, the Cygolite Metro 1100 checks all the boxes. It's light. Cheap. Durable. And powerful. The bracket works reasonably well, with included shims, but I still long for a stem attachment (I would buy separate). It's hard to keep the light tracking level after you hit the rough stuff. And by rough, I'm talking about the kind of hits that sting. Most riding does not affect the position. I recommend these lights primarily for commuters, but I use mine for much more. It's great "insurance" if your ride ends up taking long than you expected, and you have to pedal home in the dark. I also use this light for winter fat biking, paired with a helmet mounted Metro 360. This is a decent setup. It charges with a MIcro USB, a common plug-in these days, and comes with an included cable. And this one charges a lot faster than the 360 I have. The battery does seem to last as advertised, and I normally run it on strobe for daytime, and the highest setting for night riding. I do see lots of these on the racks when I commute. Or out in the wild. They're common because of all the boxes they check. If you're on the fence about this light, buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Very bright and wide field. As the mfr says, you’ll get max 2 hours on the high setting. The flickering mode is still a lot of good illumination for twilight conditions when you don’t need a strong headlight but want to alert oncoming cars, bikers, and joggers you’re coming their way. I can’t comment on longevity since mine was a return.

Very bright, small, well-made, no real complaints. The beam pattern is really great, the diffuser helps get a nice wide beam that feels safer than non-diffused lights I have used, especially when riding through corners. Longer battery life would be nice, but then it would be a bigger light and for me, 1 hour at the full 1100 lumens is enough for me; and on the "medium" setting you get about 3 hours at about 366 lumens . If you need more run time at high brightness, check out the Cygolite Trion 1300, which gives you 1:45 at 1300. I think 1100 lumens is probably overkill if you're just trying to "be seen" by drivers, but it's great if you are riding at night down a dark road with no street lights. Part of my ride is on a forest path in the early morning with basically no lighting, and the 1100 lights it up like I was driving a car with the high beams on. When I'm on the main road, or when it's daytime, I can turn the power down to medium (about 366 lumens) to conserve battery life and not blind people. The Cygolite 1100 really is just an incredible achievement, and the engineers should be proud. It makes a nice little flashlight to take with you as well - it's small, bright, and easy to recharge on USB. Comparison to a much older LED light: It really amazes me how powerful bike lights are now with all the advances in LED technology. About ten years ago I bought a Niterider Minewt X2 for a princely sum of about 150 dollars. It put out 150 lumens on max power and is almost twice the size of the Cygolite Metro series. That's a dollar a lumen. Today, I can buy a 1100 lumen light for about 10 cents per lumen! So, the size of LED bike lights has come down noticeably, and the price has come down 90% in terms of dollars per lumen. Just for fun, I charged up my 10 year old NiteRider and compared it to the Cygolite 1100. It's like comparing a cheap old flashlight to a car headlight or something - really incredible.

There is no doubt that this a very well built light, even the hardware to install it on your handlebars is super easy and adjustable on the fly. The Metro Pro is also compact enough to slide into jeans/short pockets since dismounting and remounting is a cinch. This feature is handy in areas where someone may sadly steal a bike light. I like how the Metro Pro's button is near the center, which means you don't rotate the light when coursing through lighting modes. It also flashes when the battery is low (or when charging). Unfortunately, battery low happens too frequent, but that depends on the mode of course. For day time use, I usually stick with the 'Zoom' mode. If I am dealing with peak PM traffic, I will go to the 'DayLightning' flash mode on roads that have bigger/complicated intersections. I find that 'Zoom' is more useful as it isn't as annoying to drivers. To access these modes, you have to hold down the power button for 2 or so seconds and cycle through them. Please read the instructions and understand the features this light offers. After all, Metro Pro is pricey, and being impatient is a buzz kill to appreciate this hardware. 'Boost' does work, double press the button. The extra lumens is barely noticeable when you are already at 1000 lumens and is a battery drainer. This 'Boost' feature shouldn't be a key point to buy the Metro Pro. All lighting modes except, arguably low light is very noticeable to drivers. I bought this primarily for day time use as it is very visible (but not annoyingly) during heavy traffic and also to replace my 10-year-old aging bike light.

After weeks of combing through Amazon for a better and brighter light, reading countless reviews (sifting through the fakes to find the rare review that tells some truth about the lumens and other facts), as well as reading the bike light review websites and the history of CREE led, I've learned a few things which I will distill here. Most of the ubiquitous little inexpensive cup-shaped light (same or similar to the one I included in my 2nd photo) with a big battery pack that almost everywhere claims 1200 lumens is actually only 600 lumens. That's what I've been using on my bike for about 5-10 years. 600 lumens is bright, but just barely enough to see the potholes far enough away in complete darkness, I wanted something a little brighter A car headlight, for point of reference, is about 3000 lumens, so the lights all over Amazon for $20 or $30 dollars claiming anywhere between 1800 to 4400 lumens are almost all false advertising, or using cheap parts that will start a fire while you're using it or while you're charging it. This 1100 lumen light by Cigolite is the real deal (verified on review websites as well as being sold at legitimate stores like REI etc., aside from Amazon). Side-by-side comparison with my eyes as judgment - my old cup light (claimed 1200 but actually 600 lumens) was essentially the same brightness as the second level setting of this Cygolite Metro Pro 1100. When you press Cygolite once you get low, second press medium, third press high, and a fast double press give you 'Boost' - which is the full 1100 lumens. I ride around NYC on my adult scooter, and any pothole or unexpected crack in the sidewalk that I don't see coming could send me flying, I had to keep the speed low at night with my old 600 lumen light and was concentrating too hard because I couldn't see far enough ahead. I plan on riding now with the new Cygolite always on full boost 1100 lumens which I expect will give me the same riding experience at night as during the day. I'm pretty thrilled to get almost twice the brightness with a nice small, easy to install or remove light - and to be finally free of that big heavy battery pack! Based on all my research, I think I got the best intersection of lightweight, small size, super bright, and relatively inexpensive that there is. Similar lights with most of the same qualities go for $100 and up. I do not recommend falling prey to the high lumen claims for $15-$50 all over Amazon, the majority of them are pure false advertising. Not that it indicates anything about the brightness, but if anyone is wondering, in the photo of the light shining on the door, the light is set on low.

When my son lived with me, I always plugged in his bike lights to the charger. When he moved out I worried that he wouldn't charge them, and I was right. The other day he confessed to me that he was only just now charging his headlight. He moved out three months ago, and rides home from work usually around 9 - 10 at night. Now, it's been summer so it's light late, and he probably runs it on low settings with his youthful eyes and good night vision, but three months is still really impressive. This light blows away my Taz 1200, which even on the low settings, the minute you turn it on you are living on borrowed time. For what I spent on it (used) I could have had two of these, so much buyer's remorse. I've had three Cygolites (a Metro 550, an Expilion 800, and this one) and I've been extremely satisfied with all of them, but between those two and this one they made some major breakthroughs in battery life. In addition to that, it's lightweight, bright, durable, and the price is fantastic. Buy two, is my advice (there's a reason cars have two headlights as far apart as they can be, instead of one big one in the middle. The same reason two eyes are better than one, binocular vision. Depth perception and the ability to pick out small but important details like a fresh patch of road-colored gravel on your night time commute). Between performance, reliability, and value I'd consider this the definitive commuter light.

Very pleases as I wasn't expecting this light to be as bright as everyone said it would be! Pros: - Very bright in all settings. So bright that I kept looking behind me thinking a car was coming up behind me! - Once installed properly it stays in place. - Adjustable brightness settings. Even in the lowest setting I was able to ride at night without an issue (on dark roads). Brighter settings work best when riding in mixed lighting; going fom dark streets to streets with some lighting. - Doesn't weigh much. - Slim design takes up less real estate on my handle bar. - Illuminated function button is easy to see when riding in pitch black conditions, east to change settings. Cons: - Pricey compared to the hundreds of other lights on the market. - Mount could be better. Flimsy clip with long screw is what holds it in place. I was debating taking one star off for this, but since it has held the light in place I won't hold it against this otherwise awesome light. - Would be nice if battery life were longer. Overall I think this light is awesome and I highly recommend it for anyone who rides at least two hours at night. It's strong enough to actually light up the road ahead. I'm probably going to purchase a couple of other mounts so I can mount them on my other bikes (currently on my road bike, but would like to use it on my mountain bike for when I need to get an early morning workout).

I’ve been bike commuting for about 20 years. For a long time the only way to have descent lighting was to get a generator hub front wheel plus a quality German light l from a brand like B&M. That worked fine, but after more than a decade of bike commuting weather finally got the best of the Shimano Generator hub bearings. I final,y purchased this light ans I can’t believe how increasingly bright this light is. It also has a descent beam spread so it’s not just a round tube of light. I’m using the bright mode with strobe, it isn’t annoying with lighting up the road, but it make me stand out much better against the backdrop of other traffic on the road. My old Planet Bike Blaze that was considered a good light at one point (used mostly in strobe mode) is pretty pathetic in comparison to this much newer product. Not the cheapest light out there, but compare to what I spent in the past with a custom built wheel with generator hub and $100 plus German headlight, this is genuinely a bargain. I use a Petzel light on my helmet to provide a light source that can move with my head. It’s not needed to see the road as this light is plenty bright. I use the helmet light to “look” at drivers on side streets at they approach intersections. A light pointing forward doesn’t do that, batter life is enough for my 1.25 to a.5 hour commute. I top it off at work and home.

I originally ordered the 800-lumen Cygolite model, but Amazon pulled some kind of whammy, whereby the unit went out of stock *after* I'd purchased it. Very odd. Anyway, rather than wait an estimated two weeks, I canceled the order and shifted to the 1100-lumen model. After a few nights' use, I can't say I regret the extra $50 I spent in moving up. The Metro Pro 11100 is way, way brighter than I need it to be. I use it on the lowest setting, and even then I have it directed downward at the road ahead of me rather than up into the faces of oncoming motorists. This configuration gives me exactly what I need for city riding. But it's great to know that I can detour into a darkened park or onto rough terrain, and see as clearly as I would have by the light of my motorcycle headlight. I don't use the flashing modes, and having experienced them from oncoming cyclists, I'd say they're probably far more dangerous than helpful. I can see no way that blinding and dazzling a driver - or cyclist - could improve the odds of them avoiding you. However, I do appreciate the Cygolite's ability to remember my chosen mode. Physically, the Cygolite is even smaller than I expected (and I never thought it would be huge). The light snaps on and off it's handlebar mount smoothly and easily. The construction is all-plastic, and I'd hate to try dropping it onto concrete. But the light has a nice solid feel to it, and I'm guessing it will hold up well in normal use. Overall, I'm glad I went with the Cygolite over the many no-name options, and not unhappy that I got bumped to the high-end model. I'd certainly recommend this light to anyone anticipating a fair bit of night riding - or any cyclist who feels it's important to be visible from the International Space Station.

I have used this lamp for about 6 months now and it had been brilliant, in every sense. The brightness is amazing, so you really can ride with confidence in dark country lanes which are otherwise pitch black. The battery actually lasts as long as the manufacturer says. That is a long time obviously depending on the setting. It has a good range of settings. During the day use it with "double flash" and be sure oncoming motorists WILL see you, in in bright daylight. It recharges quickly. It is very light weight. It is not the cheapest cycle lamp you can buy but it is unquestionably great value for money. Unhesitatingly recommended.

I use this for biking and it really lights up the way even in the daylight when I go in the bush it’s very handy to have. I had issues with the clamp which came loose and wouldn’t tighten up but I contacted Support and they sent me out a new one. Service is very important to me and I would highly recommend this light. It also didn’t have a rubber piece that covered the charging port and they sent me one of those as well. It is an excellent light and has different modes.
