I'd say 2 in sleeve & 1 in Front pocket so long as their Slim Volumes.

how much protection will this give to a paperback - will it prevent crasing?

Yes it will - it protects really well as long as u put it into the book sleeve carefully as u can damage the book taking it in and out!

Will it fit harry potter and the order of the pheonix?

Haven't read any of the HP books, so I can't try, but I think that's one of the longer ones, so I doubt it. The way the zip is fixed rather limits the size of a book you can put in here. Have just looked at the image of the HP series, you might get the first three in (indivdiually!), but not the last lot. I was rather disappointed, to be honest. Quality is okay, but these don't fit longer books. Have brought an alternative with a push button tab instead of a zip for my bigger books.

Decent in size and spill proof

Bought several of these in different patterns and they are worth the money paid. They are spill proof and protect the book nicely. This product is large in size and can fit an average sized hardback with room left over! The front pocket is perfect if you are a note taker as it has room to fit an average sized notebook as well. Overall a good product.
