Can you work with the mouse pad on the left side? I am left-handed

you COULD turn the table to be left-handed-mouse capable, but then the safety stopper would be behind the laptop instead on under it to keep it from sliding off.

No. the mouse table portion of the table is where the table swivel is attached. It's a right-handed-mouse table

The L shape is correct since the base is offset to the right. Place three plastic clamps on the long side and one clamp on the other side. It will fit.
