what makes it stay in place

There are two leather-wrapped, bendable "hooks," about twelve inches long, that go over the back of the chair. You can bend and adjust those as needed, depending on the thickness of your chair. They ensure that the headrest stays securely in place.

What is the distance between the bendable support grips? (my chair is more narrow on top and I want to make sure they will have enough space to hang)

The bendable supports are 18 in long and 8 in apart I have a pillow top.on my chair and it doesn't bend enough and will not stay in place very well straps are too flexible I keep having to reposition the pillow
