It is a heavy chain and sometimes a link will turn. But easy to fix. I have it on a handbag. I will get another if I need one.

What's the best way to clean the chain when it shows signs of discoloration?

I bought both gold and silver color. I have had the gold one on my purse since I bought it months ago and it still looks new.

Does this have a thick hook?

No. The hooks are not very thick, but is strong enough for normal purse.
