Noctua NH-L9i-17xx chromax.Black, Quiet Low-Profile CPU Cooler

Many of these reviews are spot on. I used this on a i5 13500. The stock cooler was very noisy. While I do have a ASUS TUF gaming mobo with 32GB RAM and a RTX3060, this is not really meant for gaming. I just don't like slow rigs. So this cooler should suffice in terms of temps. So I ended up going with this low profile CPU cooler even though my box is full size. Just taking it out I can see the good quality. And when installed, there is a significant improvement in fan noise, this thing is really silent. I agree with the reviewer who said more than two hands is useful. I held the cooler while someone else put in the screws from behind the motherboard. And in my case, I had to remove the motherboard screws and take half outside, because my case did not provide access to couple of the screws behind the motherboard while installed.

My AIO was not working as well as it should have, and I needed a fast solution since my idle temperatures kept climbing relentlessly... nearly 85°C! To avoid long term damage to the other components, I replaced my NZXT H1 v1 small form factor(SFF) rig's OEM AIO Cooler/Fan completely, and solely used the NOCTUA NH-L9i-17xx chromax.black instead. The difference was immediate, and the temperatures easily are in the high 30°C to low 40°C range when idle. I am thoroughly impressed with the quieter fan as well. Excellent product, that I can highly recommend to other users.

I'm writing this review as I was looking for a Mini ITX CPU Cooler and the information at this time can be very limited. First off, I wouldn't recommend this for a K series CPU (especially 12700k/12900k), but if you want this to work for a 12600k it CAN be done at decent temps. At base clocks for normal daily tasks/light gaming it will do fine around 60-70C. But this will throttle if running max load (will reach 100C within minutes). With an undervolt of -.075 I was able to keep temps below 90C at max load for 20min. Cinebench scores were stable and were about the same as before. During gaming I am getting around 55C now. Definitely do not get this cooler if you want to overclock the 12600k (again do not get this cooler at all for a 12700k/12900k); but this is an excellent cooler for its size. Also your results may vary depending on your case; I did my testing on the Meshilicious.

A low profile cooler like this one is an absolute necessity for a small form factor Mini-ITX chassis. I used this with a build in a Joyjom two slot Mini-ITX chassis ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BLXY7S4Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 ). The stock cooler on the i5 12400 is 15mm too tall in the Joyjom chassis and I suspect a number of others that support multi-slot cards with a PCIe riser behind the motherboard. This cooler fits with about 5mm to spare never-the-less it is silent as you'd expect from Noctua despite the blades spinning in close proximity to the ventilation holes. Ran the brown one for about a year before changing over to the black for purely aesthetic reasons. (This unit sits on my desk and connects remotely to a noisy disk array and LTO tape library in another space via installed Fibre Channel and SAS HBAs ). Thermals are great even when this unit is stressed moving a high volume of data from the array to the three drives in the tape library while providing Fibre Channel and iSCSI targets to severl other hosts.

Please ignore the reviews of people trying to use this cooler on 12600, 700 or even 900(!!!) k-chips. I’m using this on an undervolted 12400 which is using no more than 65 watts of power during a cinebench r23 multi core run and this fan is keeping temps around the low 70s. While idle I’m seeing around 30C. And this thing is dead silent almost, even above 1000 RPM! I’m throughly impressed. For 65 watts and under this is THE cooler to get.

Purchased in May 2022 and died in December 2025. Fan has been making a terrible racket intermittently for several weeks, but I was never fast enough to see what was making the sound. I started experiencing extremely serious performance issues yesterday, and eventually figured out the CPU was MASSIVELY overheated. Couldn't figure out why, because the fan was going. But then I eventually caught this darn fan at a dead stop on a later inspection. I can't do without a CPU fan, so the RMA process is useless. I will have to buy another one even though this one is only halfway through its warranty period just so my computer can function. This process is so unfriendly to consumers.

This was my first PC build and this was very easy to setup and is extremely quiet. They included the thermal paste which I didn't even know to expect and also a little noctua badge. My Mini ITX stays pretty cool.

I've used Noctua for years. Like other reviewers said, these screws are too short. So this cooler is useless. And not just a little short, very short, the screws won't even begin to screw on. I've without hesitation bought and recommended Noctua for a long time, but after reading Noctua's responses to others that bought this cooler, i'm going to be cautious from now on and i'm now shopping for a cooler for a client cpu made by anybody other company than Noctua (it needs to fit). With all my experience with Noctua, I'm surprised i just wrote the last sentence. I've built hundreds of computers and used Noctua coolers many times. I don't believe i'm failing to know how to do this. The cooler is simply not compatible because of the screws.

This is managing to keep my i5 12600K cool enough ( 70 ish c ) in a mini itx case.
