Very Satisfactory
I ordered two for overnight delivery because of a last minute "star party", to which I brought my grandson, in a town about 20 miles away. Strangely, there was another star party about two miles from his home the next day. These little gadgets were perfect! For the first star party we had to negotiate parking in an unlighted farm feild to find our way back to the car. The path was neither smooth nor obstacle free. The second star party was held on a disused and overgrown runway on a local general aviation airport. Again, there was no lighting and quite a few cracks and potholes in the pavement. As others have pointed out, these lights are BRIGHT! Not such a good thing when you trying to perserve night vision, but great for negotiating a parking lot without casting light that disrupts other users. Walking from the parking lot to viewing site, we could walk safely and not bother the rest of the crowd. These lights are perfect for navigating to a site, setting up and break down, especially if others are still viewing, though I might use something dimmer to assist me while viewing. If used judiciously (not necessarily pointing directly a target, for instance) they will not impair night vision.BTW, small kids think they are a kewl part of the "star party" or viewing experience and my grandson, at least, can be taught to use them responsibly. They would be better if they had some kind of brightness control, bright for navigating and set up, less bright for use while trying to view.

Maxxima Ultra Bright Red Light LED Flashlight
This flashlight is very well made of quality materials. My wife even likes it which is quite a ringing endorsement since she's not a flashlight nut like me. The light has an effective cone range of about 20 feet. At night, this light is very useful for astronomy and other nighttime activities. The light is very bright red with a slight orange tint and is emitted through a unique lens that seems reminiscent of a honeycomb. There are three concentric O rings near the lens end that I think are used for traction and maybe even a small degree of shock absorption. It feels good in the hand and is very sturdy. I highly recommend this light.

Not for IV
I guess if you try to get this to see veins better for IV purposes, you will be disappointed because you cannot see anything under your skin with this. The light is so red, even after I turned my light off, I could not see my own veins. The light works fine though if you are using it for camping.

Nice and compact
I have never had a red flashlight before. This had options and compact, easy to use. I bought it to use at a dark sky park.

It is Ultra Bright
I wanted something to study with at night when I can't sleep that wasn't white or blue because I heard those colors keep you up at night. This is bright enough to read text with and lights up half my room.Good light for the price. Decently built. It's not as heavy as I thought it'd be but I have no complaints. It deserves five stars.
