Tailgate Assist Shock

Edit: 12/16/2017I have trimmed a star off this item, due to one time the rod from the cylinder unscrewed from the ball mount on the lower stud. I think a bit of thread locking compound is needed.I also have had the lower assembly loose where it mounts into the tailgate. Since the last few weeks some of my co workers have been the ones opening and closing the unit repeatedly. I have not nor can I confirm this is a mfg defect.Due to its price and ease of installation. I will 100% order this again and give it another try. I do love the product and it really is a pleaser to use my tailgate with it. I hated the slamming.Original:Nice product, minimal packaging.The instructions we clear and easy to follow. Works exactly as intended, with no issues to report. Just make sure you follow the directions and you will have a good product. Install only took a few minutes. It actually took about 15-20 in my case. I used this as a learning experience to give my son some experience with installing things like this. I will buy this for any other trucks I have in the future.Note:A factory cable movement limiter has to be removed which could cause damage to the unit if you fail to remove it. The plastic piece that goes on the tailgate cable is really hard to put on, grab a good set of pliers for this task.

Works great, I installed in only about an hour with simple tools. Just be careful when installing the the self tight screw, if you over tight it it becomes useless and I can imagine is a pain in the neck to find another one. The instructions are very good and easy to follow. The hardest part is too take the original cable from the door itself, once that's done, you are ready for the last step.

My son and I installed this yesterday. It took about 30 minutes due to it being a teaching point for my 16 year old son. I would suggest that you sit down and read the instructions carefully before trying to install it. Read it a few times if you have to. It is not difficult but take your time. The gas strut is a little loud but it works like it is intended. It is a beautiful thing when you open your gate, let it go, and see it land nice and smooth! It's a beautiful thing! Don't be afraid to buy and install. You'll like it!

I have had the product for less than a year about 8 months and the probuct failed at the ball end. The piece the gos it to the tail gate has bent and losen over time will be replacing it when new one arrives. I have purchased the product again because of how much i love it.

Was Learly but bought it anyway. I am glad I did installed on my 2004 fx4 . And wow it’s awsome.Install was easy and u tube also shows install. I did have to wrestle off upper latch handle held by 50 t bit. Ended up using quick grip one size fit all wrench. To grip and turn out .After that all was good.No more worrying about dropping lift gate . It operates like a charm....

Great accessory for my Ford F-150. Now my wife and kids can open the tail gate without worrying if it is going to come down to hard or fast. Its a breeze to install (with all the right tools) it took me about 20 minutes. I found a video on youtube which was more helpful than the instructions in my opionion. I would tell everyone with a truck to add this!!

Great product! Does everything it said it would. My only slight complaint is that there is not quite enough room for the cable and the shock so the cable rubs against the shock and leaves cosmetic marks on the cable. It’s not severe and does not concern me, there’s not much space in there for both. I get many compliments on this product

It's OK, haven't installed because my tailgate already drops slow/controlled. Maybe good for an older truck, although mine is an "09 F150. will try to find another use for it.
