Does the black one actually fill in thin edges?

Yes it does! I love this product and I need to post some pictures. It works and you don’t have to use a lot! Hope this helps.

Is there a color that work with gray hair?

I love this stuff, this should help but, I did not buy it for color change. I bought it to fill in my patchy edges and it works like a charm. I also use some on my mom hair and she does have gray spots and it worked. Try it, it looks very natural

Yes, the bottom does say DMDM is one of the ingredients

What do I use in order to keep this product from making my edges flake??

It’s a hit or miss. People will tell you it’s that you’re using too much product, or your brushes are dirty or you need water. No. It really depends on what jar you get. If you get an older one every application will flake because the product turns white when it becomes old. I’ve used this with no other products what so ever on clean hair and had flaking all day. Whereas on a previous jar, I never had issues with flaking. I’ve noticed doing your edges with a little gel first does help though.
