Beautifully designed. Heavy as a rock but takes beautiful photos. Paired with the Nikon ZF, you get very nice looking photos.

Nice lens but the manual focus makes it a little impractical for shooting on the fly. This lens will make great portraits. Suggest using it on a tripod or enabling focus peaking

Yes it vignettes, yes it is soft in the corners, yes the chromatic aberrations are wild and yes it flares easily, but is it wonderful? Oh it is definitely wonderful! Plenty of contrast, easy to focus; even stopped down a few stops. Wide open and you don’t need a focus magnifier, or other focusing aides. If you are a professional or serious enthusiast and you shoot raw, this “hunk” of glass is worth it. Creamy backgrounds and lots of “analog” character. Even shooting jpegs straight out of the camera this lens has a special quality. If you are tired of clinically sharp primes with no character or you find yourself pulling back on the detail and texture sliders to add a little glow, this just might be your solution to long summer days. If your G Master 135 1.8 is not sharp enough for you, you may be wound a little too tight for this gem, but if you shoot everyday and need some good old fashioned optical fun and enjoy the unexpected, this optic will put a smile on your face. Update: Became annoyed with the droopy built in lens shade. B&W makes a rigid aluminum lens shade that works great. I took a jewelers saw to the old lens shade, but you could just as easily leave the rigid shade on the lenses to keep the built in lens hood from retracting.

This should be viewed more as a toy or art lens. Wide open, like all .95 lenses it’s very soft with a thin depth of field. Even stopped down, I don’t feel it’s very sharp, but you don’t get this lens to photograph stopped down imo. It has a very distinct look. Focus throw is fast, but also I feel like the markings on the lens don’t match where it is in the focus range. It’s a toy/art/fun lens. At 0.95 you’re not going to be fast focusing with this, so if it’s fast moving don’t expect to capture it easily. But, I think it could make a good cinema lens since it’s manual focus.

It has a lot of character, the images are clearly compelling, but after some use of two weeks, the focus ring has broken free of the internal mechanism and the lens will not focus at all. I've owned this lens for two weeks and it is now completely non-functional. It was a mistake to throw away the box. I wish I could keep using it, but it has completely failed. This lens is a beautiful gamble. </3

Something about this lens turns into a piece of art, maybe it is because everything is out of focus and you only see the gorgeous bokeh and lense flare. Like an old school Russian lens it has tons of CA and distortion and the most beautiful lens flare I have ever seen. The almond shaped bokeh is gorgeous albeit busy and at f/0.95 the depth of field is shallow like the crescent moon which will drive your focus puller mad, or all your shots blury. So much light comes in that at decently noiseless ISO you can shoot night life. It is so heavy that your mount will wear off quicker and your arms too.

This lens works very well and exudes quality, it has definitely earned the term, 'glass'. Modern mirrorless cameras make using a manual f0.95 lens a realistic possibility. Using the viewing screen and zooming in on what you want sharp and focusing from there. All the pics here were shot wide open at f0.95. The headshot selfie was shot through a K&F Concept 62mm ND4-64 ND & CPL Polarizers Filter 2-in-1- and is still quite sharp. This lens is so affordable, you really should get it - now...

This lens is the heaviest 50mm I have ever owned. It's even heavier than my Nikon 24-200 zoom. That being said this is a true .95 lens that lets in a tremendous amount of light and can produce some interesting images. For the price I think the lens is worth purchasing just be aware of two things. First, at .95 the focal plane is paper thin and with manual only focus it's extremely challenging to capture the shot. Second, at .95 there is green and purple fringing in the high contrast areas. If flawless image quality is important to you i'd stick with first party lenses from your manufacturer but if your willing to deal with some compromises this Brightin Star might be exactly what your looking for

Overall a decent lens, a bit soft at f0.95 and contrast is a bit low, but it gets better at f1.4. Not bad considering the price of a new Leica Noctilux.
