Ichi-Ban A number one track choice for Z scale train track layouts
This review is for the Rokuhan full-size (not shorty) starter track oval for Z scale train track layouts. As the newest entry into Z Scale track, Rokuhan has made all the right moves for ease of assembly, durability of the track, and MOST importantly, total dedication to the scale to develop EVERY unique of piece of track imaginable to allow for easy expansion from your starter layout into you dream layout as you progress. The metal rail joiners tend to be the Achilles heel of Z track, but not the Rokuhan track joiners. They are protected by removable/replaceable plastic track joiners which keep the metal joiners straight and to keep them from being bent and ruined during repeated assembly/disassembly of the layout. The molded-in track bed has screw holes to allow permanent mounting to your layout board and no part of the track ties are damaged when using the screws. Most new pieces of Rokuhan straight section track has a removable piece to allow the user to insert as many electrical drops from your power pack as you care to to ensure good power feed all around your layout. All this is plug and play, no wires to twist and solder, just plugs to plug right into the track section. One other American manufacturer has similar track, but they are not producing new expansion curves/turnouts/crossings like Rokuhan continues to do. Rokuhan track is highly recommended to start and to stick with for all your layouts both now and in the future.

Great product
I've used a diverse selection of the Rokuhan Z gauge "Classic" track pieces for my layout, some via Amazon, some direct from Japan. To review each individually is just too much work, so I'm putting this review with several items I bought on Amazon. Suffice to say, over all I'm more than pleased with the quality, precision and operation of all Rokuhan tracks, track parts and turnouts. I have no serious problems running either my Rokuhan or AZL locos on them, unless the track is dirty. All straight pieces, except the 25mm, have a power connection point which is hidden by a slider if not in use. The track geometry is designed for 1" (25mm) track centering, the Z gauge standard, and track ballast is molded in, though some pieces without ballast are available for bridges and the like. I used all ballasted track, which means I have to add a 1/8" layer of cork in my rail yard to raise the ground level between the tracks for the scenery. Turnouts are plug-n-play, as is the whole Rokuhan system, and are set as "power routing" at the factory, with parts included to change over to "power everywhere" if desired. Turnouts also include a piece of trimmed track, which sometimes needs some fine tuning with a small file for the best fit. All the track is packaged well, but absolutely needs cleaning before use. The track connectors are actually 2 separate pieces per rail end. One plastic which embeds in the ballast, and metal connectors for the rails. I highly advise sticking to the instructions when connecting and disconnecting. Fiddling with them can be a bear with Vienna sausage fingers. There's a greater variety of track and turnouts to select from with Rokuhan than with other manufacturers. Rokuhan also makes adaptor parts to combine with other brands. Topping this off is their video collection. It doesn't cover every product, but comes pretty close. While all parts have clear, concise instructions included, Rokuhan's YouTube demonstration videos can be informative about even mundane things. For example, I mistook the hollow stems on the back of track pieces as left over sprues from manufacturing. They're actually locaters/supports for pilot holes should you wish to spike or screw down the track. Other videos are simply beauty shots, but all are only 1 to 3 minutes long. The biggest down side to using Rokuhan in the USA is the cost when buying pieces domestically. It pays to shop around. ATM Orange Gump's tariffs are15% for toys, which is annoying enough, but the shipping costs are the killer. It's not unusual to see prices that are twice (or more!) higher in the US and on Amazon, compared to buying straight from a Japanese hobby shop. And that's PER PART! But if there's a part you really need, and you want it fast, Amazon vendors do it fine. But I now order all the pricier pieces, like turnouts, directly from Japan, which is more cost effective even with the taxes and shipping if you plan the purchase correctly. The retail prices are far lower, and the shipping costs for several normally expensive items is effectively the same as when you order only one.
