Update: excellent value
UPDATED REVIEW: I'll leave my original review here because it accurately reflects my first experience, but I can report that after I repaired the product I'm very happy with it. After a few uses straight out of the box, the trimmer stopped resonding to the on/off switch. I had to let it run until the battery died. I disassembled the product, removed and cleaned the switch components, reassembled and fully charged it. Whatever caused the problem is gone and all is good again. That was months ago. Since then I've used it several times a week and, unbelievably, it is still running strong on that charge. I'm used to recharging a trimmer ever week or so. I don't know how long this initial charge will last, but it's been many months now. That means I don't need to keep the charger plugged in and taking up valuable space. The shave I get is not as close as I'd get from a manual razor, but it's good enough for what I need. It's excellent at trimming and getting sharp lines and edges. I think most people would have returned the product when it went rogue, but I'm glad I didn't do that. When the time comes I'll gladly buy another trimmer from this company. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I bought this unit to replace a $12 Remington model that was finally dying after about eight years of good service. I bought this Philips because of it's affordability and good ratings. I shave about once a week. Before I even recharged this Philips shaver once, it became stuck in the "ON" position. The switch wasn't physically stuck; the unit simply stopped responding to the switch. I had to set the shaver on a towel and let it run for about an hour until the battery discharged. (Good battery life, I'll give it that!) In the few times I used it, the shave I got was decent at best. It didn't shave very close or smooth, and I had to go over some areas four or more times to get things acceptably short. I'll probably buy another Remington now. If I can get a warranty replacement for this dead Philips I'll keep it as an emergency backup.

Very Good Value
I’ve been using this trimmer regularly for a few years, and it’s easily one of the most reliable grooming tools I’ve picked up. The build is solid, the guards lock in securely, and the blades cut cleanly without tugging. The battery life is excellent, the attachments are genuinely useful, and upkeep is simple. It doesn’t give a true clean shave, but for trimming, shaping, and keeping short stubble even, the performance and value are hard to beat. Phenomenal value for the price.

What you need to know, 9 paragraphs of advice
1. Booklet writes it takes 8 hrs to charge and 60 minutes of usage. (That is why I like battery powered trimmers, just have an extra set when it dies. I don't have to wait until it recharges.) There is a emergency charge time, that will give you 5 minutes of usage. 2. Read the pamphlet. It has important information about charging and usage. 3. I have a beard. I saw the video with the person with a beard that said he cuts his beard with the 12mm guard. I used the 9mm guard, and I wouldn't use a guard shorter than this. My wife said any shorter, and it wouldn't be called a beard. She didn't want it shorter. I trim my beard once every 2 weeks. I recommend one should start with the 16mm guard and work your way down.I plan to use the 16mm guard the next time. I used the 5mm guard for the mustache. 4. To take off the blade. You hold it from the top and pushed upwards and towards the back of blade. The bottom part of the blade is attached to the shaver handle. It is a plastic fitting, so be careful. Lift off the top part which is the blade, then you can remove the attachment from the shaver handle. 5. I am concerned that the plastic guards might break while attaching them, and again when removing them. 6. The mini precise blade, is very convenient. 7. The nose blade is not sufficient in removing noticeable hairs. You might need to use the mini blade. 8. I have the guard attachments and nose blade in a zip lock bag. The shaver with a 16mm guard, 5 mm guard, and the mini blade are in a second zip lock bag. Then I put them into the bag that came with the beard trimmer. This way there won't be hair laying around in the drawers. 9. The number for the guard size is on the outside of the guard, below the guard blades. The numbers on the inside, I presume are the parts number. It isn't easy to read the guard size number, since it is molded into the guard. I had to turn it in an angle that the light would reflect onto the number.

Probably adequate, but not worth a penny over MSRP
Honestly, rather disappointed in this purchase. The trimmer came in the black accessory storage bag, inside of a clear plastic bag Amazon likely repackaged this in. The black storage bag was missing its zipper slider thing, so I had to cut off the sealing strip to access the contents. So, now the bag can't be resealed. More, upon inspection of the clipper heads, it seemed that they had some hair already in them, and in the white grease on the plastic elements, which is my primary complaint. I was under the impression that I was purchasing a new product, not a used, refurbished, or Amazon Warehouse item. (Actually, I just noticed that the micro/precision trimmer head has a perfectly round, undisturbed glob of grease between its plastic tabs, whereas the wide trimmer head had clearly been spread around from use, in addition to the aforementioned hair clippings.) I kind of wish I'd just paid the extra few dollars to buy it in its original clamshell packaging from a local supermarket, just for sake of knowing I received a new and sanitary product. Regardless, while I hate to excuse this horrible business practice on Amazon's behalf, I didn't want to bother returning the clippers, when it was easier to just clean it all myself, and then reapply my own lubricating grease to the moving elements. Better for the environment and whatnot if I just fix the issue myself. But again, I absolutely don't believe I should have had to do this from what I was under the impression was supposed to be a brand new product. Anyway, beyond those issues, the clippers seem "adequate," and nothing more. $20, maybe $25 value at most. It all feels very simple and cheap. Not necessarily a bad thing if you can be gentle with this, and don't intend to use it heavily and regularly. I suppose a selling point could be that its light weight makes it more ergonomic and easier to use for an extended period without strain. But the plastic shell and overall construction definitely doesn't inspire confidence that this could be a buy-it-for-life purchase. All in all, I'm hoping that the cheap shell means that more attention has been devoted to quality electronic components. Another issue I have, is that the device seems to be advertised as being waterproof, and shower safe? But in actuality, the device has an icon near the charge port that shows that it shouldn't be exposed to water, and so apparently, only the trimmer heads are intended to be rinsed. Lastly, maybe a minor gripe, but it would be really nice if these rechargeable devices could be utilized with common phone chargers, using a USB-C port going forward, instead of their proprietary barrel plugs. What happens if I lose or damage that? Can I easily get a replacement? Using a USB port, the trimmer would be even more convenient since it could be charged with a portable power bank, instead of being reliant on a wall socket. And the manufacturer wouldn't have to worry about stocking replacement parts or developing bespoke charging hardware. Speaking of charging, it seems like a bit of an oversight that there's no charge status indicator, neither on the charger itself, nor the trimmer body! Only other suggestion might be that it was designed for the use of user-replaceable 18650 or 21700 cells. Another step towards minimizing e-waste, but of course, I'm probably asking too much. I think in summary, this is probably a good option for something quick n dirty for light, occasional use, maybe as a travel trimmer, but for myself, I think I'll eventually be purchasing something better. Maybe the Norelco 7750?
