What if you have aluminum doors

If you have aluminum doors, the magnets will not hold. Steel, yes. Aluminum No.

Why is the purpose of the suction cup and how & where is it attached?

Thanks for contacting us with your question. The suction plate enclosed in the product and connected with a string are anti-theft rope. The method of using the anti-theft rope is as follows. After inserting the anti-theft rope into the hole in the door guard and tying a knot, open the car door, attach the suction cup to the window inside, close the door, and install the door guard :)

I'm looking for something to magnetically place below my passengers side window to keep my dog from scratching the paint when he hangs out the window?

First of all, your dog sounds adorable! Second, I don't think the magnets would hold at highway speeds. You'd be better off with one large car sign magnet. This is thick rubber (like a soft yoga mat) and it has several small magnets throughout. It's great for protecting our car against parking space dings in our building's tiny lot, but both its thickness and easy removal would work against you when driving. Please tell your dog he's a "good boy" for me, and good luck!
