Protectli Vault Pro VP2410, 4 Port, Firewall Micro Appliance/Mini PC - Intel Celeron J4125, DDR4 RAM, M.2 SATA Storage, AES-NI, Barebones

I'm an advanced Linux user and IT professional so take this review within this context. Flashing Coreboot using an Ubuntu Live USB was pretty simple using their Flashli firmware and documentation. Installed pfSense 2.5 then reinstalled with pfSense 2.6 once that released using ZFS for installation. Really snappy machine and it easily handles 1Gbe utilizing the usual Firewall, NTP, DHCP, DNS, pfBlocker, HAProxy (I self host), Wireguard (VPN back into network, do enable AES-NI Crypto). Haven't tried any Layer 7 Firewall as Snort is single core and probably wouldn't perform well. This firewall can handle 1Gbe without breaking sweat so far. This router is solid, dead quiet, open standards, and a great deal especially compared to other companies products. Inexpensive TEAMGROUP hardware seems to agree with the router also. I anticipate that I'll be using this router until 2.5Gbps becomes standard. Purchased VP2410 without ram or ssd and installed my own since I already had them. Using this as my home lab firewall. Very easy to setup but I had to use BalenaEtcher, for some reason usb made with Rufus would not boot. OpenVPN was easy to configure. Will likely buy another to make a DMZ.

This box is great and has enough horsepower to route and switch between the ports simultaneously and bidirectionally. However, Port 4 is not able to be saturated with traffic at 1 Gbps because the NIC chip does not have enough PCIe bandwidth. I can only push about 500Mbps with 1500-byte packets. Other than that, it’s a great product.

Configuration of the device and installation of OPNsense were easy enough and it is working great.

It shows good performance and measures low temperature. However, changing the BIOS should be done very carefully. In the AMI BIOS, you must select Legacy booting instead of UEFI method, and then insert the Ubuntu Live USB to work.

I followed the instructions online (be sure to boot UEFI only) and pfSense installed with no issue, running and happy within about 30 minutes.

J4125 is a good processer for the application. You can find examples for much less but not any that i've found with Intel nics as well. So if you want to pay the premium for that peace of mind this is a good option. Im able to run proxmox and virtualize pfsense, unifi and even a minecraft server without it breaking a sweat. Great option for geting a overkill network setup or utilize the extra power and virtualize it and throw a few more services on top of it.

Cercavo un dispositivo che potesse risolvere i miei problemi, spendendo il giusto e andando quasi sul sicuro… A quanto pare Protectli è riuscita nel suo intento… a quasi un mese di svariate prove e test, devo dire che quest unità è davvero solida e ben performante! Il case che funge da dissipatore è un ottima idea! Situato in un posto non molto ventilato, raggiunge circa i 50 gradi sotto stress… ben fatto e bello esteticamente! L’assistenza è molto veloce e competente! Consigliato!

Quería el dispositivo para instalar OPNsense y todo ha ido perfecto, sin problemas. Al querer instalarlo en la caja de red de mi vivienda, he querido monitorizar el arrancanque del sistema por hdmi, pero no me mostraba señal en pantalla, he sacado y vuelto a meter el hdmi y no ha opuesto resistencia alguna, le cable ha entrado en la caja, lo que me ha parecido muy extraño, al echar un vistazo no había puerto, solo el agujero de la caja. Lo devuelvo esperando a que me devuelvan todo el dinero, porque no me parece que sea de calidad que a la tercera de introducir un hdmi, el puerto se caiga.

I am very pleased with my Protectli purchase, just added RAM, using onboard storage and installed pfSense. Well packaged and dispatched from stock at Amazon, my only concern was I could hear some loose inside the unit upon delivery however upon opening it to install my RAM I discovered that both of the M.2 screws were loose and rattling around inside. Yes, you can probably source a generic fanless Intel PC with multiple NICs cheaper however for the slight price premium, quality and peace of mind purchasing from a respected vendor the Protectli is value for money to me.

An sich ein sehr gutes Produkt. Leider musste ich nach 14 Monaten feststellen, dass die SSD defekt ist – das ist natürlich nicht schön :-(
