Hi, thank you for contacting GROHE Consumer Connections. The ring has a diameter of 3/8" inch. If there is anything we can assist you with in the future, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-444-7643, Monday- Friday, 8AM- 7PM ET and a Grohe Consumer Connection Advisor will be happy to assist you.

whats the color on this? Is it brushed nickel?

Yes the one they are showing here is the Brushed Nickel.

what is the diameter of the ring and how far does the base comes out of the wall?

The diameter is 7" inches and the base extends 2 1/4" inches from the wall.

does a bath towel fit through it ?

Yes - I just tried it, and there seems to be plenty of room. I think it might not be appropriate if you have the bath "sheets", but regular size towels are good. And it doesn't look weird - the loop circumference is just the right size for both hand towels or bath towels.
