Bowl Sander for Woodturning 44‑piece Set with 2 Inch Sanding Discs Hook

This is the second of this type of sander that I have purchased. Both work well. The handle fits my hands and is easy to control. The angle adjusts to any degree and once tight, it stays put. No issues with the sanding pad overheating and losing the glue that holds the parts together (the glue on some sanding pads can separate the hook paper from the sanding paper).

The tool is self is incredible does what it needs to do. It is of great quality no cheapness about it. But I was more impressed with the customer service I received from Peachtree Woodworking Supply, Inc. I had a little issue with a missing Allen key and brass bushing. I sent a message to the seller and within five days I got the missing parts. I will definitely buy from them again and recommend anyone seeing this review buys from them if they're looking for a 2 inch Diameter Bowl Sander with Dual Bearing Head and 2 inch Foam Hook and Loop Sander

After using this sander For several projects I can say it does a better job than trying to hand sand on the lathe. But, the handle for me could be longer for stability and the locknut could secure better. Sands externally well but struggled with deep concave internal coves in bowls. Internal vessels need to be wide enough to accept the depth of the sanding head and bearing housing. If you are not careful it will twist out of your hand if you bump the housing or the thumb adjustment knob on the alternate inside wall. I would have preferred more sanding discs to come with the tool. Shipping was as expected and well packaged. Update: July 2019... It did not take long to exhaust the very small supply of sanding discs that came with the tool. The sanding discs are not very durable. After using some discs I cut up from some hook and loop sanding pads I was much more happier with the tool. The better quality sanding pads made it much easier to get the pad to spin on the surface and it works very well at removing tool marks. A better quality sanding disc now lasts me roughly 2 1/2 bowls (6-12”) per disc. Additionally, I can sand up to finer grits with beautiful results. It did take some time to get used to using the sander correctly. A little patience, better sanding discs, and the occasional drop of machine oil will have you turning out better turnings. I hope this helps... Last update: 14 September 2019, I ordered 2” blue sanding discs from 2sand.com in grits from 120 - 600. These blue discs greatly improved the sanding capabilities of this tool. I know Mirka is also much appreciated in the wood lathe communities, 2sand.com’s blue sanding discs are less expensive. At 25 discs per package versus Mirka’s 10 per grit the 2sand.com package price was much lower than Mirka. I can sand in progression 3-4 hardwood bowls per disc.

I have seen this tool used on many videos I have watched about wood turning. Now that I have one I am not sure how I got along without it. Sanding the inside of bowls is now easier and the results are excellent. The quality of the tool is above what I expected and I am sure that I will be using it for many years to come. It comes with some sanding disks in 100 grit so it is advisable to order some 2 inch disks that are also available on Amazon. I ordered a set that has 10 of each grit through 3000 and both of the items arrived at the same time.

I had been wanting to get one of these for quite a while. I am glad I found this one at a pretty good price. Simple to use - it takes a little practice to keep it in contact and spinning. Multiple adjustment/position possibilities. It does I great job on bowls and plates. It will really cut your sanding time. I have even used it on a couple of pens and pencils I have turned.

The bearings provide no functionality. The shaft just spins in the bearing. I've used this on 3 bowls, and the shaft is starting to show wear from rubbing on the bearings rather than having the bearings spin. Sad, Peachtree usually sells good quality products, but this one is going to fail soon. that said, the pad on the mandrel is sufficiently soft, and the handle and its associated adjustable joint are very nice. Sandpaper is so-so. They don't all have the numbers on the back so you have to label them yourself, not a major deal, but not best quality either. Overall ok for an infrequent hobby tool, but not going to last.

I'm in the early phases of teaching myself to turn wooden bowls. This tool was recommended by an online experienced bowl turning artist so I purchased it and am very pleased. It is a solid little, mechanically precise tool that preforms simply and easily as advertsed. I find it is not as aggressive in sanding the surface of my bowl as hand held sandpaper of equal grit BUT this rotating tool absorbs the heat of friction and thereby my fingers do not feel the heat.. .

Learning curve Keeps me from burning my fingertips while sanding. Too large to fit 2” holes but where I can use it it works fine

I was impressed with ow it sanded. It would work better if the sandpaper was the same size or slightly larger than the disk. I only received 3 of the 4 sandpaper.

This thing works great. It is excellent quality for the money. It feels great in the hand and is well balanced. Makes sanding much quicker and provides a very nice finish with the included disks. Easy to adjust the angle and change out the pads.
