High quality - maybe even over the top (in a good way)
These are the most heavy-duty and solid badge holder/retractors I've ever had. Right from getting them I could tell that the quality is above most. They come with 2 options to hold the badge each - either a ring or a reinforced plastic button strap. The retractor cable is what appears to be steel. Crazy! The housing is solid, and the clip is designed to go on a belt loop or some other type of loop, so they won't just fall off. Definitely worth the purchase, first impression is very high.

Very good retraction spring preload and a coated steel cord. Virtually perfect!
These are pretty awesome! They have a high spring tension for retracting the cable+keys, the cable itself is a very thing gauge plastic coated steel cord. These are, by far, the strongest retractable keyring/ID Card units I've had. Most of the retraction units I've had in the past broke within 30 days. These have held up to the abuse I put them through without any problem. I am not afraid that the cable will snap and I'll lose the keys. Unlike every other one I've ever had! The plastic coating on the cable serves to reduce friction as the line gets paid out and when drawn back into the unit as well as weather/waterproofing the cable. The carabiner is well made and won't just come apart under normal use. This retractable keychain is about as perfect as it gets! If you're looking for one and/or an NFC/RFID key card and are on the fence with all the options... Just get this one. You won't be disappointed! I have only two minor suggestions that I would give to the manufacturer. Neither of these affect my rating and don't warrant dropping a star. First, the badge snap strip is affixed in a way you CANNOT remove it. If you want to remove it, it requires that you destroy it in the process. Doing so renders the badge snap strip useless. The only way to POTENTIALLY non-destructively remove it would be to spread the D-Clip apart so that you can remove the badge strip (and the keyring component) from the rest of the unit and then re-assemble it. I believe removing it in this manner would be troublesome and very difficult to do without damaging it. It would be beneficial to have that attached via the keyring part so that it can be removed when using it specifically as a keyring. That or use a smaller ring to attach it to the same little D-Clip the keyring itself is attached to. (See Attached Photo) Second, the carabiner should be a bit larger. It's a good design and well made, but you won't get it to fit with wider belt loops that some pants have and you can't simply remove it and replace it as it's integrated into the plastic body of the unit. It still does exactly what it should, but if the carabiner were made a little larger to fit the fatter belt loops and potentially simply user replaceable, it would make this unit better. The carabiner itself is made of metal. (See Attached Photo) As I said, I don't count either of these two things as flaws, nor do they warrant a lower rating as a result. They are just two things that would be beneficial if the manufacturer were to correct them.

Love it!
Was exactly what I was looking for. An ID Badge reel with a carabiner and the little plastic clip thingy. Been using a hybrid DIY version and it sucked. Exactly what I was looking for, plus the reel line feels really strong and stable, I wonโt have to worry about it snapping like my old one ๐ช

For the price..
I will keep this review simple for those looking to buy it. I never used to it hold keys and only had it for my ID. I have to scan in and out of doors multiple times a day. Even though mine broke, it lasted longer than other cheap ones. Ultimately, you get what you pay for and I cannot fault it for the price. 4 stars. Pros: The price is just as good as some of the cheap plastic ones being sold on amazon. Good quality external build compared to similar priced alternatives. The cable is tough and over the past 5 months, has not frayed or snapped. The carabiner is my preference for having on my beltloop and I never had an issue with it. I felt it retract smoothly without issue--compared to other user reviews, I didn't have keys so it was light. The design is simple and sleek. Cons: It only lasted 5 months. The retracting mechanism randomly failed and the cable never went back in. even if you have a nice cable and external build, it means nothing if the mechanism will fail.

Occasional use - Durable after 2 years
I bought this 2 years ago when I was traveling abroad and was worried about pickpocketing. I had actually used it to hold my phone. I added a "phone tether tab" and stuck it on either my phone case or directly on my phone. Then I added a steel keychain cable loop through the keyring and the phone tab. I'm not sure if this makes sense, but I essentially found a way to attach my phone to this retractable keychain. I clipped it onto my sling bag/fanny pack, and I was still able to zip it closed with my phone attached and inside the bag. I found it very handy when I was taking lots of pictures, so instead of taking my phone in and out of the fanny pack, I let my phone dangle from the keychain. It was useful if you need to frequently look at directions as well. It doesn't hang too far at all, and it was very convenient. The only reason I don't reach for it as much is that the separate attachment I bought (the steel keychain cable loop) started coming apart. I used it for traveling, airports, cities, concerts, and festivals. It still works now, but I do occasionally use it. I was thinking about repurchasing since I had given mine away.

Just got these, and I'm very impressed so far
I use my ID badge multiple times, sometimes many times, every day at work to unlock doors and to punch the time clock. I've had a made in USA version of these for 10 years now. I've had two of those and each lasted almost exactly five years before the cord wore too much and broke at the very end where it attaches to my ID badge. Those both used a fine black cord that may have been Kevlar, and to last five years of use multiple/many times every weekday, it was high quality cord. Those same reels are still available on Amazon and I was going to buy another one, but the price increase changed my mind. When I bought my last one five years ago it was $12.99. The other day the same exact product was priced at $30.79 for one reel. I slammed on the brakes and looked for other options. I saw this two-pack of very similar reels for $13.99 (less than 1/4 the price per each compared to the current price of my old ones), saw that they have a steel cable instead of a fiber cord, saw that they come with nice split rings and a badge snap strap, so I decided to give them a try. Upon first inspection and use, they seem as high quality as my old ones. Better looks, same size, a quality belt loop clip that feels solid, sturdy internal spring with smooth extension and retraction, nice, smooth steel cable that's more than plenty long, and seem to be as well put together overall as my old ones. Like I said in the title, I just got them. Took them out of the package about an hour ago. So far, I'm very impressed. I have one attached to my belt loop now and the other will stay in the box and be kept as a spare. If they break or fail sooner than I think they should (i.e.- within a couple years, considering the price difference), I will be back to update this review. But for day one of what I hope to be a few years of service, I'm very happy with the purchase.

Super strong!!
These things are awesome. They are definitely heavy duty for heavier key rings. I use mine to hold a badge in a protective case. My old retractable wore out quick under the weight of my badge and the string broke prematurely. But no chance of that happening with this one. The cable is metal and the spring is very strong. Great quality!

high hopes let me wanting. guess we will try again
Got it at the end of January, and by mid-April, it had broken. It is easy to use, and it doesn't weigh anything. It was super useful and feels heavy-duty, but yeah, it's broken lol. So, I bought a 2-pack; it was cheaper than the single I bought the first time. Super disappointed by the reviews; I didn't think I would need 2. Joke's on me, I guess. I work in IT, so it's not like I'm beating the thing up. I work on multiple sites, so I use it a lot, and it might get stuck on the seat belt once or twice, but not even 6 months lol. I went to use it on the door like any morning, and you could hear the inside mech slip, and before I knew it, the cord was arm's length and done lol. Round 2. The first day went well; I'm thinking of giving my buddy the other one lol. I'll keep y'all updated on this. I added 2 stars because the seller reached out, and we came to a very reasonable compensation regarding the issues. Also, I haven't had any issues with the new one i have, and considering giving the other to a buddy I work with.
